Easy you throw it away to save some yards to make the next down more manageable or you take off running and get as much as you can if no one else is getting open to make the next down less yards to get.    Anything but running in circles while going backwards and then just eating the sack instead of throwing it away.

To be fair, if he threw it away every time no one was open, that also would've ended the game.

He's a rookie. A very not NFL ready rookie. This was the expected result.

Willis played well enough to win the game in regulation it's not his fault his wideouts dropped the ball and the playcalling was abject garbage. You throw a rookie QB into a hostile environment when you've spent 3 quarters and 14 minutes giving him absolutely NO confidence, including his wideouts dropping two perfect throws for big gains, of course he's going to panic, of course it's going to go badly! If they didn't trust him to throw the entire game before that then don't radically change course when the MOST pressure is on him.

They did that kid a massive disservice.

Run where lol, throw where, he was in the box, by the time he broke it "throw the ball away" was much harder because there was no hot and his feet weren't set. Everybody sees that and thinks "oh just throw it away" when by the time that was available to him, that wasn't viable.

On 4th down i agree with you thats not possible but on 2nd and 3rd down you for sure can throw it away to make that 4th down a 4th and 10 instead of a 4th and 26 giving you a much better chance to convert still instead of almost no chance.
