He was clearly stunned at what had just happened. Some people who weren't stunned though, were the Broncos. While Fields' excellent passing display did catch them by surprise, they knew their opportunity to turn the tables would come. One comment from a Broncos defender to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune summed it up to painful perfection. "Thirty-one fumbles going into our game," one player said in the locker room, referring to Fields' career total. "No. 1 emphasis. That was it." They knew if they got Fields in the right situation, he would give the ball up. Why? Because he's done it his entire career.
Drained
You gotta think about it in this way. If the Bears wise up, clean house with possibly two FRPs in the top 5, maybe even number 1, and Eberflus is gone. There are teams that will take the chance on Fields for a 3rd round pick and I think Chicago will be okay with that. How many aging QBs are there without a solid future plan? Fields can play well, just keeps getting bad situations. Put him in a place like NOLA, sit behind Carr, learn the offense, create chemistry. talent literally being wasted day by day

Fields/Bijan/Pitts/London with Arthur Smith? That would be fun.

Cowboys (even tho it is Jerry Jones) gave up a fourth for a QB who attempted 102 total NFL passes in two years lol. Fields has shown a lot of potential, just keeps getting pushed down by a poor Bears coaching staff and supporting cast. Confident enough for the Bears to roll with him this year. He's not the problem, he's getting scapegoated. I think the stat is something like the defense for this team is so bad that if Fields played as good as against the Broncos, he would still be 3-13, because the defense is giving up 35 PPG+ lol. To be absolutely fair the Cowboys should not have traded for Lance.

At least Lance is a bit of an unknown/wildcard due to barely having played due to injury/being on a good team and the Niners not being willing to let a young player learn on the job and make mistakes. We all know what Fields is - a running back playing the quarterback position who can’t properly run a passing offense.

Ordinarily I’d agree with that, but it’s not like Lantz is that big of an unknown. He was beaten out for a backup quarterback job by known sucky quarterback Sam Darnold. To call him an unknown is at best a massive over simplification.

Probably nobody, but then again let’s remember what Darnold fetched and that Lantz also fetched a 4th. Fields potentially fetches comparable value. He's not the problem, he's getting scapegoated. A LOT different when you're looking at a guy with 102 career passes, and believing that the guy that was picked #3 isn't damaged goods and a player with 711 career passes. Easier to bet on a guy who wasn't given an opportunity than it's to bet on the guy who had the opportunity and struggled. You can blame it on whatever you want, but we've seen players on bad teams succeed. Fields hasn't been good. He's got a good WR supporting cast this year, and a solid one last year and a solid running game. The OL is a mess. But the notion that Fields is playing devoid of talent needs to die. There needs to be flashes, and not just against teams with miserable defenses. 10 hours ago, Drained said: I think the stat is something like the defense for this team is so bad that if Fields played as good as against the Broncos, he would still be 3-13, because the defense is giving up 35 PPG+ lol. And the argument goes both ways. Justin Fields isn't going to be able to play against Denver's defense every week. Even if you throw out their game against Miami, Denver is giving up 26.7 PPG. That would have ranked 31st last year for comparison. Fields was absolutely brutal in his first 3 games of the season, and he had a good game against one of the worst defenses in the league. Which one seems more like the statistical anomaly?

I wouldn't have minded it for them if they weren't ostensibly locked in to Dak this year and next. Rush is a cromulent backup as well. Acquiring Lance seems like it was almost a move for 2025, which is kind of weird.

Getsy isn't a wiz kid by any means but there's plenty of evidence that Fields is just as much at fault for his own struggles. Can't be missing WIDE OPEN receivers on a weekly basis and still blame the coaching exclusively. Fields is a bust.
