Joseph missed more XP's and had a lower XP% in 2022 than Carlson had in 2023. Carlson had a better FG% in 2023 than Joseph had in 2022 or 2023. Also bear in mind that Joseph posted those numbers with the benefit of kicking for a dome team. Edited March 26 by Mazrimiv

Guess it just depends on the year.

The thing people are missing is that Anders will undoubtedly improve this year. The question is, how much? Vikings have not exactly been a hotbed for kickers recently so it’s a bit worrisome that they just let him leave.

All while kicking for a dome team.
Leader
Ryan Wood - Mark Murphy says he should know within a week whether Packers are playing Eagles in Brazil during 2024 season. It’s between Packers and Browns as Eagles opponent. Murphy on the one potential “competitive advantage” issue that could get in the way: possibly busing to Milwaukee. Sounds about right for a kicker they are paying around $1m for, with no guarantee he even makes the team. Again, the hope is that Carlson improves and shows he can be consistent. If he's not, and Joseph doesn't appear to be the answer, you could also see the Packers look at the FA pool again during TC when I'm sure a few more veterans will get released. Just keep this in the back of your mind...I'm kicking FGs on a local HS field. Expect to be ready for OTAs

Not a huge fan of opening up the season against the Eagles. However, it's a big advantage to play them on basically a neutral field instead of in Philly.
Mazrimiv
Interesting blurb from MLF regarding the shuffling on the offensive staff. Quote “I think Jason Vrable, he's ready to be a coordinator,” LaFleur said. “So I'm trying to brace for what I think is to come. Just like I think Steno should start to get some opportunities at a head coaching position. So just trying to make sure that we're supported in all those areas and that we have people kind of in the bullpen ready to go.”
Mazrimiv
Should probably want it to be GB playing PHI in the Brazil game. Otherwise, you'll need to have Peacock to watch the game. Quote The 2024 season starts on Thursday, September 5, with the Chiefs raising a banner in Kansas City. It continues the next night from Brazil, with the Eagles and someone else playing an NFL regular-season game for the first time in South America. The opponent for Philly isn’t known. The network is. The NFL has announced that the game will stream on Peacock. As usual, the game will be available via an over-the-air channel in the local markets of the team involved in the game. Peacock streamed the Dolphins-Chiefs wild-card game. This year, Amazon will stream the wild-card game

And dang, he looked like a medical trainwreck when I googled him. Broken arm, broken leg, ACL.... Experience/practice? You have to think that a specialist would get better working with a position coach in an off-season. Comfortability? (Is that even a word?) Kid was kicking in new places. He might get better just by knowing where to kick when the winds are blowing in Lambeau. He made amends with the left hash? Possibly they went out and had a nice seafood dinner at Red Lobster and worked things out? Crosby had a terrible year in Green Bay and bounced back strong. Many kickers get better over time. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be real competition, which is kind of what we have here.

Doesn't mean there shouldn't be real competition, which is kind of what we have here. He got worse as the season progressed. 11 out of his 13 missed kicks happened from week 10 and beyond. No reason he just doesn't get any better and completely wash out of the league. Assuming he'll get better is a terrible plan; assuming the Vikings kicker is enough competition is also suspect but a step in the right direction. is there any proof that kickers get better over time? Everything i've always looked at for kickers shows that previous seasons seem to have very little correlation to subsequent seasons. it's just as likely that we saw an average carlson season as it is that we saw one of his worst seasons. It's also entirely possible we just witnessed his best ever season.

Of all the mostly pointless Carlson debate, this is the part that actually does concern me. He struggled badly once the season got to November. As of now, I don't view any of the K's brought in as an upgrade, but that's where the K competition should help. I'd expect Gute to keep Carlson for another season if the K competition is close. If he does keep the job, another rough 2nd half in 2024 would be the end of his time as a Packer.
