They did turn Stefon Diggs into Justin Jefferson though. Well I should say Rick Spielman did.

That's the mindset of a true gambling addict.  Casinos love it when they can pay out a jackpot to someone they know will just give it right back.

It's true though, they got Jefferson.

Vikings have a great history of WRs.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it would still happen again.

And you can't forget that several of those great WRs weren't drafted by the Vikings...namely both Carters (Anthony and Cris), Ahmad Rashad and Thielen.  They basically lucked into all of them, trading for Anthony and Ahmad, picked up Cris off the cocaine-riddled trash heap for $100, and took a flyer on a rookie out of tryout camp.

Lord, only knows how many WRs they drafted at those same times were dumpster fires.  For example, in the same year they traded for AC, they drafted some guy named Juan Johnson and one of the greatest Vikings' names (but not greatest players) Buster Rhymes.  The same year they picked up Cris Carter, they drafted Reggie Thornton and Patrick Newman.

It's luck to make a trade? I don't know.....

That said, I'm not trading JJ to draft a WR. No way.

It's luck to make a trade where the guy you acquire becomes a star when he wasn't at the time you acquired him.

I mean we just drafted Addison who has as many 10 TD seasons as Jefferson. WRs just seem to workout for us. Minus Treadwell and Williamson.

It always seems to be luck when things go well, but bad FO when they pick a guy and it doesn't work.....maybe it's all luck? Maybe there is skill in both?

To a certain degree, it is luck along with skill, as sometimes I think you can make your own luck, good or bad.  If you're hitting more often than not, then you're making good luck, but if you're missing more often than not (such as the previous FO with OL for many years), then you're making your own bad luck.

I don't think it's pure coincidence that some organizations do a much better job drafting and developing talent at certain positions.  Throughout our history, we've had lots of good luck at WR, DE, and C, but have had a lot of difficulty at OT, CB and K.  I don't know exactly why that is, but there must be something internal with their scouting or something else that has helped them identify those players better.
