Why are the 2013 Seahawks the consensus best? Is it just because of the nature of their SB beatdown on the Broncos?

I would argue for both 14, 16 Patriots teams and the Eagles over them.

If you were to look up the word "Annihilation" in the dictionary, there should be a picture next to it of Super Bowl 48. We got totally and utterly obliterated.

That Seahawks team also beat two other stacked teams on their way to the SB. 14 Pats were close, but I'd shade the Seahawks over them.

The 2013 Seahawks were legit.

  • They beat 2 very good teams and killed 1 great team to win the title.
  • The other 3 teams in their division were 21-9 against the rest of the NFL.
  • They had an all-time great D that was 1/1/1 points/yards/turnovers
  • They had a 100 rated QB with talented WRs in Baldwin and Tate (+ Kearse as the 3)
  • They had a very good running game with Beast Mode and Wilson.
  • They even had an all around speed weapon in Harvin when the playoffs came around.

The 2017 Eagles beat the best defense and the best offense in the NFCCG and the Super Bowl.

  • They were 4th in points allowed and they beat 2 of the 3 teams ahead of them.
    • They did not play Jacksonville
  • They were 3rd in points scored and beat both the teams ahead of them.

Their D was nasty and their O was/is underrated because of the 'Morons against Foles' brigade

The 2016 Patriots were a lot better on defense compared to 2017. No Nink, no Sheard, no Hightower, no Logan Ryan, no Chris Long. Gilmore was the one positive addition but that's about it. The biggest difference was rushing defense. 2016 Patriots very good, 2017 team horrible.

This was due to Alan Branch's regression, which is something that's worth mentioning.

To take this a step further... best teams to not make the Super Bowl by year IMO:

2010, 12-4 Baltimore Ravens. 2008-2010 the Steelers/Ravens Defensive Battles were fun as heck. 2011 shifted to offense though.

2011, 15-1 Green Bay Packers. No doubt about this one, probably at least a top three team ever to not win a ring.

2012, 13-3 Denver Broncos. Still think the Broncos got hosed in this one, according to the rules a new coin flip and game should of started in the 2nd QTR. Not a continuous 2nd QTR.

2013, 12-4 San Francisco 49ers. The NFC Championship was the Super Bowl and the home team was gonna win. 2012-2013 short lived rivalry between Frisco and Seattle was amazing.

2014, 12-4 Dallas Cowboys. Dallas got hosed against Green Bay and I think they would of had a decent shot against Seattle.

2015, 13-3 Arizona Cardinals. That team was dang... stunk it up in the conf championship though.

2016, 12-4 Oakland Raiders. Bias here. so maybe not the best year for me to judge. But easily a year outside of the Pats/Falcons, anyone can be ranked the 3rd best. Who knows how the Raiders would of done with a healthy Carr.

2017, 13-3 Minnesota Vikings. This team was terrific. Pat Shurmur was a genius for Minnesota and that was a very very well rounded football team.

2018, 13-3 New Orleans Saints. Well this ones a bit of a no brainer right? Possibly the rightful SB Champs?

The 2010 Pats are better than all those teams. They were playing at a GOAT level heading into the playoff game with the jets. FO ranks that offense #2 of the last 30 years
