No deal for Kirk cousins

Interesting to say the least. Hard to see how this doesn't affect cousins play in any way. It'll also be interesting to see if they transition tag him next year.

One thing's for sure. We get another year of the soap opera between cousins and the redskins.

Cousins is playing this situation so well. He's already getting paid a ton by Washington and he'll either get a huge 1 year deal next year on the franchise tag or he can leave for a better franchise and still get a ton of money.

I can see why Washington hesitates, but it's their own fault.  They could have signed him to a mid-range (mid-range being based on QB talent level) deal a long time ago, but they messed around and waited and franchised him, so now he knows he can get more than they can pay.  On the one hand you don't want to lose a 10-16 QB, but on the other hand, if you see him as potentially 14-20, you don't want to give him 1-12 money and hamper your chances of building a team around what you've got there.

Rough deal for Redskins fans.

Yea but in today's NFL starting QB market, you are going to over pay regardless.

Cousins has shown enough to warrant he is a good starting QB, and whether the Redskins are hesitant or not, they need to realize they either need to bite the bullet and overpay him, because every QB that is getting a new contract is being overpaid these days, or let him go and try and find someone else long term.

Cousins and his agent are playing this perfectly right now. Guy is making a ton of money year to year and knows he's going to make a boat load no matter what next season.

This is just so poorly played by Washington. Press release placing all of the blame on your starting quarterback and repeatedly calling him the wrong name is just such a bad look. Cousins is going to end up playing the system beautifully. He's collected two huge salaries out of the Redskins and now sets himself up for a massive payday right before his 30th birthday.

So, Bruce Allen released a statement about failed negotiations, including figures? That seems kind of...petty.

I get you want to keep the fan base informed, but it almost seems as if he wants public perception to make Cousins seem like he's the issue.

Not sure that's the most prudent decision. You don't look a gifted horse in the mouth. A franchise QB is arguably the hardest position to fill.

Petty is one word, words that can't be posted here are other words.

What kind of moron do you have to be to sell out your own franchise QB that's in the middle of deciding if he wants to sign with your team or not?

I've never seen a franchise completely misplay negotiations this badly.  He's gonna get paid a ton, and then sign elsewhere next year.

Completely and utterly bungled, and it's firmly the owner's fault.
