but in the mornings when they first meet it gets very chippy and often seems aggressive. It's the weirdest thing.

They're hungry, a primal need.  And we all get cranky when we're hungry
So the chippiness might be related to the primal instinct to fight for food/territory. just a guess

  • 2 weeks later...

So, we got our replacement puppy last week, and we’re in love.

Pyrenees mix (we think the other part is a border collie) with mobility issues from her mother breaking her hip sitting on her.

9 weeks old and she’s already nearly house trained. Follows us room to room, doesn’t roam outside, doesn’t fight us or cry when she’s being bathed, good in the car, and doesn’t jump up on people because of the aforementioned mobility issues.

She’s perfect.

These two have stolen my heart.

Our groomer is dog sitting these two while we're taking a quick vacation for my daughter's birthday - I can't believe how much I miss my furbabies.

(I can't believe I actually used the phrase furbabies in a non-mocking way).

I’d say you should be embarrassed, but those two are pretty adorable.

Also, there are so many other things you should rightly be embarrassed by that this wouldn’t even make the list.

Clearly not related to me - too cute.

At this point, I'm immune to it all. Part of it is "old naked dude in the sauna" courage, part of it is being drunk half the time...

Get the new pup next Friday. So pumped.

What kind you getting?

Our puppy has left behind the “being perfect in every way” phase, and realized she can do things like carry off and chew everything not nailed down and yip at us til she gets what she wants.

It’s the price you pay for the cuteness.

German Shepherd. She'll be just over 6 months old. Plan on showing her, and assuming she passes all her clearances I'll be breeding her as well - will be my foundation ***** for my breeding program.

So this is my new girl.

Registered name is Winrock Communication Officer Ohura, but we call her "Hurry" for short. She was entered at the shows this past weekend and had a nice debut, getting lots of nice compliments. Has an excellent temperament. Think she and I are going to have a lot of fun.

I've enrolled my German Shorthair Pointer, Leslie Feinbark, into dog training classes. She's super smart, but I don't know how to engage her as much as she needs. It's a 6 week course and we've done the first 2. It's been really good so far. She's picked it up like a champ. I haven't even practiced with her much in between classes. I encourage people to do classes if possible.

Anyone who gets a new dog should look into finding a good training instructor to, at the very least, help them teach the pup/dog basic manners. It helps the new owner and pup bond and lessens the chance of bad behaviors popping up.

Once I start breeding, I plan on offering my puppy buyers so much of the purchase price back on their pup after they send me proof of them completing an AKC S.T.A.R. puppy class or a similar class.

My girl Katja is going to a two week training session in July - our boarding location offers them, it's a full two week immersion program where they break some bad manners while providing leash training and socialization.

We enrolled Sasha in there back when she was about six months old, and we're happy with those results.

Speaking of Sasha - I don't know why, but she is SO timid and nervous lately. She runs around noon stop with a nervous energy, she can't seem to relax on her own. This really showed at the vet on Friday - she was bearing her teeth at the vet assistant, tried to bite him a few times while they were trying to examine her. They had to muzzle her, and even then she was growling like a psycho. She was so freaked out she pooped herself.

I legit don't know what to do - she's never been like that before. Advice? My wife thinks we could give her those CBD dog treats, but I'm very hesitant to do so right now...

CBD works great for my dog with anxiety (and also for the older one with arthritis). I'm not too familiar with the treats but I know that you get for what you pay for with CBD. My dad who has horrible arthritis in his knees tried the stuff that I/my dogs take and said it worked wonders, and then tried to get some cheap stuff on amazon when it ran out and that stuff did nothing for his knees but messed up his stomach.

We use the Asherhouse Wellness brand and just sprinkle it on their food, but just make sure you look into the ingredients before you buy something.
