SkippyX
It makes no sense to keep Foles after you traded Bouye. The Jags are in rebuild mode now or lose now mode. Its not tanking, but you don't trade away a top 12 corner who is getting paid 2018 top 12 corner money unless you are trying to get out of cap hell. Its probably the right play to settle for mediocre while you learn what you have with Minshew before trying to jump back in it for 2021. BTW, the cap hell is from paying Bortles 18 million, not just from bringing in Foles. If they went cheap at QB in 2018 then they could have given Foles an extra 10 million in base salary for year 1 and been in much better position now. Instead they paid 18 million to go cheap at QB. I was probably leaning too heavily on 2017 since I am in Houston and they let him go and he was fantastic the next year. We have a dedicated Texans radio here so you heard about it a lot! Maybe 20-30 range is more accurate. He was not their #1 when Ramsey was there but there are lots of really bad starting corners in today's NFL. Can still use veteran guile to get open, but athleticism is no longer part of his arsenal. edited to add: When these news bits come out, its often because the team was trying to find a trade partner and neither the player or agent is on board with that plan. So they leak about his imminent release, which kills the trade value and allows the player to choose his next team Edited March 5, 2020 by Shanedorf

I remember when he was a legit superstar at TE. With Drew Brees, he was putting up WR numbers, was up there with Gronk in the "best TE in the league" discussion. (Gronk won it because he's an actual TE who could block well, not an oversized WR who was a liability in sealing the edge). He'd just box dudes out in the RZ like he was going up for a rebound... so fun to watch in his prime.

bomont
He's not even close to a play-maker and hasn't been for years. Saints timed that just right. He will retire either this year or next.
