Looks like the Chargers finally realized Gordon isn't all that. Way to hold yourself out of job dude lol

Gordon holding out came back to bite him last season, but let's not pretend like he won't be one of the most coveted FAs this offseason..

I’m sure the 3 fumbles in one game won’t help him bust the bank.

Good on Ekeler getting himself from undrafted at the bottom of a depth chart, to a pretty healthy payday.

Good on the Chargers too though, for realizing this is the guy to put their money in...over the shiny "big name" with "draft pedigree" guy in Gordon.  Some teams seem to struggle with making those sort of calls.

Ekeler's agent should NEVER work again. Absolute joke of a contract from his point of view. Chargers can be very pleased with the deal they've got, because I imagine if he went to open market then he would've had 50% on top of that and the rest!

I thought Ekeler could have done better. Just to compare, 3 years ago Chris Thompson got in the neighborhood of 5/25. Maybe after seeing the Gordon situation up close he just took the first thing that came along

Where are you getting those numbers?

Per Tesfatsion, Thompson's deal is now technically a three-year total after he re-worked the tender his signed this offseason. Over the life of the contract, Thompson is set to make $9,752,800 in total salary, with $6.466 million guaranteed. A $3 million signing bonus was included in to the contract.

Outside the very top guys, the RB market has been tough. Mark Ingram only got $15M/3 years last offseason. Ekeler is younger, granted, but the team also has some leverage in the way of him still being tendered (rather than a UFA).

yeah he must have really wanted the security of a long-term deal because his play and production would put his market well above $6 mil AAV. ekeler has made peanuts so far in his career and given the lack of longevity for RBs and i can see why he would be uber motivated to secure some actual money instead.

honestly good for him though. the odds were stacked against him, signed as a UDFA running back behind a productive, workhorse RB that had draft pedigree. he played well in his limited touches and then last year showed he can handle a full workload and still be effective.
