I think Simmons goes much higher here the he will IRL to be honest. I think NFL coaches will be a little more wary of the "positionless player" look how far Derwin dropped as an example

Ive seen mocks where he falls out of the first. Baffling, but goes to show there is no consensus on him. Personally, I think he is the best defender in the draft.

He won't fall that far but outside the top 10 may very well happen or he could go 4 and I have no idea what I'm talking about.....neither would surprise me

A lot of Panthers fans want Simmons at 7 with Brown as the fall back. Brown is in the Wilfork mold and DT is deep in this draft.

My point is I think there is a chance fans and draftniks are higher on Simmons than actual NFL coaches and GM's might be. I'm not saying that is right but I think it could be the case. Like I said, citing Derwin as an example

Didn't James have some injury risks around him too?

Yeah but they were wrong about Derwin

Maybe people see that now and try to make amends

I think that's probably true.  Real world GMs tend to be a lot more "risk averse" than armchair fantasy GMs in the first place.  But more than that...the biggest reason i could see him falling a good ways past 4...is that a lot of those teams drafting up there, are gonna have regimes that will be even more risk-averse than typical.  They're going to want that shiny, easy to sell to the fanbase sort of "solid win".  Where a LBer who isn't really a LBer, is a lot riskier as to how much of an impact he will have if he's not used really uniquely...and in how that looks if teams around you are getting "solid wins" at simple premium positions...and you're hanging your hat on a guy where it's hard to quickly soundbite the role he'll play.

Could see this happening too though, tbh.  Can be a real "copycat league", so some team up high could very easily see the way teams missed a bit on Derwin...and overcorrect too far the other way.  That's been known to happen too.  Who knows.
