This is my thinking as well. Of the pass rushers I have watched, I think he has the most talent, but the concussion/injury history is concerning.
It’s especially difficult because I’m not sure they are allowed to complete a medical evaluation with team doctors under the COVID rules (I don’t believe it was allowed last year - not sure if it is different this offseason).
It’s one thing to take a chance with a later pick, but a lot of risk in the first round when we need some hits in the draft this year.

The best rusher I've seen outside of Phillips is Ronnie Perkins. He should be there at 22. Might even been there in the 2nd round.

I'm not a fan of the Georgia LB. I'm not a fan of anyone from Georgia at the moment (Thank Wilson for that).

I do think there are some good rushers all through the draft. Good skilled guys that can do a good job if combined with a FA and another draft pick.

I feel we will end up signing a guy like Kerrigan and then maybe double-triple dip on guys in the draft.

See this makes no sense. Dedication isn’t the problem with Phillips. People see medical retirement and thinks a guy isn’t dedicated. UCLA has a pretty strict policy on concussions. After the 2nd one, you’re pretty much pushed to  give up football.  It’s no surprise that just two months later he decided to transfer. He had to sit out a year but he worked his *** off to get back and play a great 2020 season. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is. He’s not on social media posting dumb **** and he never had work ethic issue like Wilson’s fat lazy ***. Now if you want to point towards the injury and concussion issues for not drafting him, that’s completely understandable.  I think it’s a moot point anyway because I think he’ll be long gone before 22.

Yeah I never heard about him being questionable about wanting to play ball. It was can he stay healthy enough.

But I think his star is rising enough that someone will take him earlier than our pick. Mid-Late Teens he should be gone.

I totally agree but scouts and NFL personnel guys are dumb when it comes to this stuff. Every year we see anonymous scouts/coaches/front office guys come up with some lame, invalid concerns on prospects. I know there’s some scouts/coaches/front office guys who are “questioning his love for the game” even with the facts you laid out.

I especially think it’s the case this year because of the lack of face to face meetings with guys.

Personally I think Phillips is the third best Miami pass rusher in the class, injuries aside.

But Rousseau is kind of a projection.  It'd be nice if we had more leaks on guys that didn't play in 2020 and what the perception of them is.

This is a really deep class.

PFFs latest mock has us taking Jayson   Oweh in the first. I feel like that is the exact player we stay away from. Athletically gifted but limited production. Just don’t see the fit. I feel it’s got to be a safe player who isn’t a project or has big time injury issues. That to me eliminates Oweh, Rousseau, Phillips, and Paye. Phillips is the most gifted rusher but has concussion issues. Rousseau put up insane numbers his RS freshman year but sat out last year and lost a year of development. Plus he’s not very gifted as an edge rusher. Still think his future is a 5-Tech. Paye and Oweh are great athletes with very good size but have a grand total of 18.5 sacks between the two in 48 games. Ossai to me isn’t worth pick 22(more of a 2nd rounder) and Ojulari has one pass-rush move but he’s been very productive, has good size and athleticism. Could certainly see him being the pick. My top guy is still Christian Barmore. We need to get bigger up front but not lose athleticism and the ability to rush the passer(ex: DaQuan Jones). Sadly, I do see him flying up draft boards lately. My other guy is Jaycee Horn. If we cut Butler, CB shoots up the needs list. Horn to me is the best CB in the draft. Let other teams fall in love with an overrated Surtain. Horn is lockdown press CB. Tired of seeing our CBs play 10 yards off the receiver. That’s probably partially scheme but I also feel our CBs are scared to get burnt. Can’t have fear as a CB. Horn is legit.

It’s a pretty edge rusher draft though.  No dominant stud like Chase Young but some very talented guys. The 2nd round to me has very talented guys as well. The Pittsburgh guys are two my favorite players in the draft. Not necessarily first round talents but have been very productive and extremely well coached at Pitt. Patrick Jones and Rashad Weaver made up a great duo to me felt like years. Pittsburgh also a very good interior DL in Jaylen Twyman who opted out this past season but was insane the year before. Quincy Roche is the “3rd guy” from Miami who had probably the most productive college career of any of the pass-rushers. His issues are size and length. I feel he’s a pass-rush specialist in the NFL but will get ate up  in the run game against NFL lineman.

The entirety of my tape notes on Oweh: "Meh."  Ranked him below every other Edge that I watched tape on.  I just do not see it.

I honestly wanted us to draft him before the season started. If he really ran that I wouldn’t be upset with him at 22 even tho I knw we need defense. Especially since Davis is likely leaving

Lol did Bateman report on himself that he ran a 4.39.

Is the "source" Bateman himself lol

The more research I do, the more I think Amon-Ra St. Brown is the WR we’d pick if he’s there, in say the 2nd round. “Toughness”, “good route runner”, “great hands”, “big time YAC ability”are all things you’ll see said about him. All things that fit the WR profile we’re looking for.

Plus he was a team captain and from everything said about him is a high character guy. Something that means everything after the Wilson stuff.
