Aaron Rodgers Broken Collarbone - potentially out for season

Put your arm in a sling 24 hours a day for 5-6 weeks.  No lifting your arm to get a gallon of milk from the refrigerator.

Minimal range of motion exercise until 8 weeks, then maybe some light beginning strength exercise.

Let us know how strong your arm is in 12 weeks from surgery with throwing a football 30 yards.

Full time lurker here and RN who's broke my collar bone. Don't get your hopes up for this season. The bone can be healed up fairly quickly but your strength and range of motion are shot for 8 weeks or more. This poster above is spot on. At the 8 week mark you can potentially start opening doors and drinking a beer with that arm, the first 4 weeks it hurts when you sneeze. Doing anything that requires strength or coordination is closer to 10 to 12 weeks, that's just doing something poorly not excelling. Immobility is horrible on muscles and joints, it's why medical laboratories will pay people 10's of thousands of dollars to lay in bed for months on end for studies, it wrecks you.

Rodgers had surgery. If they put him on IR will be very telling. Obviously it's not the 8 weeks of not being able to play, I don't think he's coming back at all in the regular season. However, if they don't IR him, I can only assume it's because they want to get him practice reps before 8 weeks is up, which would lead me to believe they'd be preparing him for a potential playoff run.

Which brings up an interesting scenario. Is there any way say we're 12-4/11-5 Hundley has looked great and Rodgers is fully cleared to start the game by our medical staff for WC weekend that you'd stick with Hundley for the remainder of the 17/18 season?

Everything you posted is certainly true and thanks for sharing that insight....however, Rodgers has access to the best of the best in terms of his surgical team and his post-operative care. He is also an elite athlete who takes great care of his nutrition and overall health, making him an "ideal" surgical candidate.

There have been immense leaps forward in both the surgical procedures and in rehab and you can be sure he has access to them, if so desired

"In orthopedic surgery there has been a never-ending quest to improve surgical outcome and the patient's experience. Progression has been marked by the refinement of surgical techniques and instruments and later by enhanced diagnostic imaging capability, specifically magnetic resonance. Over time implant optimization was achieved, along with the development of innovative minimally invasive arthroscopic technical skills to leverage new versions of classic procedures and implants to improve short-term patient morbidity and initial, mid-term, and long-term patient outcomes.

The use of regenerative and/or biological adjuncts to aid the healing process has followed in the drive for continual improvement, and major breakthroughs in basic science have significantly unraveled the mechanisms of key healing and regenerative pathways. A wide spectrum of primary and complementary regenerative treatments is becoming increasingly available, including blood-derived preparations, growth factors, bone marrow preparations, and stem cells. This is a new era in the application of biologically active material, and it is transforming clinical practice by providing effective supportive treatments either at the time of the index procedure or during the postoperative period. Regenerative treatments are currently in active use to enhance many areas of orthopedic surgery in an attempt to improve success and outcome"

In this scenario, the only way we continue playing Hundley is if we don't want to win a Super Bowl and we want to trade Rodgers.  Can't win Super Bowls without playoff experience at QB, and I'd challenge anybody to disprove this.  Also, who gets to tell Aaron Rodgers he's not getting a shot at a Super Bowl?

I still think it's a play it by ear deal ... figuring he's going on IR w/designation to return in 8 weeks and then they will decide what to do with him.  If the Packers are out of the hunt he remains on IR.  If the Packers are still in it they will put him on the active roster as long as he's close to a return.  If it was clearly out if the realm of possibility to return this year they'd simply IR him and his season would be over.

You don't need to ir with designation anymore though. Anyone can come back. Two guys total. You can pick after they're put on for 8 weeks whoever you want.

Yeah .. guess they changed the rules again .. stupid rule anyway.  All players should be eligible to come off of IR at some point .. if healthy.  The NFL's old IR rules were completely ridiculous.
