I think my "favorite" thing about going to specialists is that they rarely do **** for you and they still charge you $90 copays and then an additional $200+ on the visit that your insurance doesn't cover lol. I've been trying to solve my migraine issues for over a year now and I keep racking up specialist visits with no resolutions. Neurologist can't figure it out. Pulmonary doctors/sleep study had no results. So my GP has decided that it's the weather and I actually agree with him.

My son needed to see a specialist once.  Made the appointment like 2-3 months in advance, drove 45 minutes to their office, met the doctor and she basically introduced herself to us and said she’d see us again in 2 months to discuss the main reason we were there for.  …..or, like…we can discuss it now, since we’re like…all in the room together now?

My back surgeon was a spectacular d-bag to the point where its amusing to look back on. Surgery went well.

My foot surgeon was a super nice guy. Did a dog**** job on the stitches, so I had to massage the wound site for months afterwards and drown the thing in vitamin E and it still looks like crap. Very apologetic about it in the follow up consult.

Go with the **** surgeon every time. Also applies to Chinese restaurants for some reason, the more overtly disrespectful the better the food.

Yeah.  I think it's just a prerequisite of being a surgeon, to be a total dink.

I think maybe it's a side effect of doctors who really just stand on "their work".  vs other doctors who can just kinda fudge it, climb the ranks, and soften the edges by being real nice and likeable, approachable, whatever.

I feel like it happens in other fields too.  At least, to some extent.  Where...you come across people who are just absolutely terrible communicators and show zero empathy.  But often it feels like the people who manage to rise that far in the process without any real social skills...tend to be absolute savants at what you actually need them to do.  Limited to some weird little niche somewhere...but they're the best at whatever it is.  Where their work overcomes their lack of social graces and pleasantry.

So I see people in these roles too, but more and more I look at them as being purely held back in their career by their lack of social skills, and the primary reason they look like savants is because they've been doing the same thing for so long, not necessarily because of innate talent (though they clearly had some innate pull towards whatever the job was).

I also see total donkeys who try and market themselves as quirky experts, so I definitely don't see anti-social and think 'that's the person I want to work with'.

And particularly in a surgeon's case, walking a patient through the emotional realities of their surgery is part of the job description. The good surgeons are ***** because they're overworked and tired, and being empathetic to the 10,000th patient who needs the same thing is exhausting. I get it, but it's the job and they get paid plenty enough to put on a therapist hat for 2 hours a week. If the oncologist can do it so can the ortho.

I started a new Twitter or X account a few weeks ago for kicks and giggles.  One just to talk about Bears football.

Thought I would actually attempt to build a following since I come on here (Bears forum) and there about 10 to 20x a day anyway throughout my work day.

I talked to a guy who spends all day doing just that.  Building a following and talking on Twitter.  He was paying for premium to get paid and the algorithm puts you on a lot more peoples feeds.

I am like, how much do you really make doing this?  To his credit he was honest.  He's like $20 - $40 a month.   The $40 is if he gets a really popular post within the month.

I don't care again.   95% of my followers are porn bots.  I'll save my $14 a month.

The only way to do it is to find viral videos.  Download them for yourself and then repost them as yours.  But everyone has figured that out now and everyone is doing it.  I see the same videos posted 50x a day just on my feed.

What do you think of this young pretty girl doing and saying this stupid thing about men?

YouTube and Tik Tok do same thing.

Where do people land on the the current crew vs ankle sock debate?

I was a dork and wore crew socks through high school and college. I eventually gave in to ankle socks and it was life changing. My feet, ankles, and calves learned truly became free that day.

Crew socks are for olds and dorks, that's a fact.

Size between ankle and crew

Yeah.  I don't mean to say that people without proper social skills are just better at their jobs.  😆  I just find that there's a certain level at which...people who have climbed to that position in spite of their lack of social skills, tend to be really darn good at whatever it is that they do.  Which is probably held back to that role by their lack of social skills to branch out into something else, less directly involved in the work.  But i don't necessarily view that as a bad thing.  The world needs people who are just extremely good at, and contented in, whatever little roles that actually make the whole apparatus work.

In the same way that some people are extremely good "managers".  But absolutely **** when it comes to actually having to do a specific task that they're overseeing.  I think it becomes a bit antagonistic when in the current system, it creates a clear pay and "prestige" gap.  But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way.  In an ideal world, i think you'd have a lot of extremely proficient dickheads in those sort of, "holding the scalpel" positions.  And a lot of more socially gifted people in a more intermediary role, softening the edges of that.

Though i do agree that it's very important for Surgeons to be able to clearly explain procedures to their patients.  I don't think it necessarily needs to be all warm and fuzzy and "put on the therapist hat" per se.  But being able to communicate the procedure is pretty critical.

I mean...yeah.  Being an "influencer" is extremely difficult and requires a lot of dumb luck.  Because we've got an entire generation or two of people who view this as the ultimate career.  And are trying to make a go of it themselves.

I did some writing for a sort of upstart web publication sportsball thing for a little while.  Got paid per click basically.  It wasn't even really beer money...and the whole thing was just exhausting.  Basically putting the onus on me to go out and promote the publication anywhere and everywhere i could, in order to promote my own work and "get paid".  I didn't do it very long, because it basically just disillusioned me about process and made the sports thing a lot less fun.  It's just a super cutthroat, dog eat dog world out there when it comes to social media and especially sports media.

I like crew socks.  If the balls of my ankles aren't covered, my feet feel naked.  Might as well just not bother wearing socks at all.

But i also rarely wear shorts in public.  I'm just usually wearing pants...unless i'm out for a run, or going for a walk or something.  In which case...i still prefer crew socks, 'cause they just feel more sporty.

I only wear longer socks when showing or on other special occasions where I have to wear dress slacks - or when I’m wearing boots.

Otherwise I just wear ankle socks.

I normally prefer YouTube shorts to IG reels bcuz Youtube's algorithm is better.  Suggested videos for me are usually hip hop, sports, standup comedy etc which are right up my alley.  But there's this new trend of shorts where ppl recreate photos of themselves with family or friends from when they were younger.

I guess it's kinda sweet but they all use that terrible song "I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan.  Sorry not sorry but I can't stand emo pop.  I click on "don't recommend this channel" for every single one (20+ at least) but the algorithm hasn't gotten the point yet. Sigh.

I find it is the opposite. Youtube's algorithm, at least for me, is garbage. Without fail, it ends up putting me in a hole of those incredibly stupid, wannabe billionaire finance guys and right wing propaganda. I've never watched, or wanted to watch, any of that.

When I watch IG reels, I get videos about food, dad stuff, or lawncare, which is perfect.

We need a dad thread. Someone should get on that.

Anyone else have a toddler that loves to sleep? Knock on wood, but unless my kid is sick, he is sleeping at least 12 hours every night, uninterrupted. 7pm to 7am at least. It's after 8am right now and the kid is still fast asleep and snoring. Granted, he is a ball of energy every waking moment; running, throwing, playing, and eating is all he does when he is awake. He's not one to sit down and watch tv or anything else. I thought every toddler was like that though, and I don't think I've ever met another one that sleeps as well as this kid does.
