A pickup like that should get them a wildcard spot again or at least keep them as contenders. it is a good pick up, still think they need to get a lance lynn/Arrieta/cobb type sp since Santana is on the shelf for a few months. Agreed. Prefer Lynn or Cobb
tom cody
Cobb would be my preference there. A pickup like Cobb could solidify the Twins rotation and put them up there in contention for an AL Wild card spot. flyguy1609
Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports that free agent Lucas Duda has agreed to a deal with the Royals. It's a one-year, $3.5 million deal, per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Duda struggled to attract meaningful interest this winter despite posting an .818 OPS with a career-high 30 home runs in 127 games last season between the Mets and Rays. Such is life for a 1B/DH type in this modern baseball landscape. He should see something close to everyday playing time this season with the rebuilding Royals. Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday that Yuli Gurriel (hand) will likely be out 5-6 weeks. Gurriel underwent surgery Wednesday morning in Houston to remove the hook of the hamate bone in his left hand. That procedure can sometimes take up to eight weeks to recover from and will often have lasting effects, but the Astros are giving off an optimistic tone. "It was not something that happened in the last few days," Luhnow told reporters. "It’s something that has been there for a few years, but it was non-symptomatic until recently." Marwin Gonzalez is likely to serve as the Astros' primary first baseman in the early going this season. Tyler White, A.J. Reed, and J.D. Davis could also be in the mix depending on how things go this spring.

Astros opening Day is April 02, about 4.5 weeks. Gurriel starts the season with a 5 day suspension for being a racist **** head. Gurriel would first be elliglbe to come back April 8th, or 5.5 weeks from now. I hate you Jeff Luhnow.

That doesn't take into consideration how long it's going to take him to get back to full strength though. Those hamate bones can really screw a guy up. Stanton had his removed around the middle of 2015 and didn't get back to himself until last year.

flyguy1609
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Nationals "remain engaged" with free agent starter Jake Arrieta. It seems like his primary suitors at this point are the Nats, Phillies, and Brewers, but many more teams could jump into the mix if the veteran right-hander begins fielding shorter-term offers. Something has to give soon with the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues entering their second week of play.
