Round 2 Pick 34; Christian Watson, WR, NDSU

I am thrilled by this pick even if it was a costly trade-up with an arch-rival. There was no WR in this draft on the level of Chase or Jefferson who would immediately be an All-Pro in their rookie year. There was no WR that would immediately replace what Davante Adams gave us, and even in his case it took a couple seasons of development to get where he is at. However, there were WR's who could more immediately replace what MVS gave us in terms of just vertical stretching the defense on go routes and in blocking downfield. And the best of the bunch was Watson as far as replicating MVS in terms of those two areas. Some might argue William's, but he isn't the blocker that Watson is and the Packers want out of their WRs. Some have Watson as the best blocker in this draft for WRs.

LOVE THE PICK!!!

Jennings:  College dominator = 46.5%  Speed score 100.9

Nelson:  College Dominator = 49.6%  speed score 107.8

Cobb:  College Dominator = 28.2%   speed score 93.1

Adams:  College Dominator = 40.7%  speed score 98.1

Watson:  College Dominator = 44.0% speed score 119.9

Traits that bode well for production at the next level

What does the College Dominator % mean?

% of the passing game offense that WR accounts for

Quote

College Dominator Rating – first outlined by Frank DuPont in the book Game Plan, the college dominator rating represents a player’s “market share” or his percentage of his team’s offensive production. For example, a 35+% dominator indicates that a wide receiver has the potential to be a team’s No. 1 WR and/or a high caliber contributor. 20-35% indicates a mid-level talent with situational upside. Less than 20% is a red flag.

Tremendous athlete.  Big, fast, quick with flex.  The only negatives was D2 level of competition and wasn’t he high on the list of receivers with the dropsies?
The Vikes got overpaid on this one, Gute must know more than most.

have to imagine our staff loved Watson to give up two 2nds to our biggest division rival to get him

they got their guy

If it had been anyone outside of the NFCN I wonder if it would have cost the same?
