The way the league sees Kenny Young makes you question what you know about the game. I thought he put some brilliant film on tape last year, especially in the run game.

But, apparently we offered him nothing in the Spring (our DC worked with Young in LA), and the Raiders cut him last week.

I am not saying he was flawless; that said, I am really, really surprised we haven't even sniffed at him given our injuries. Clearly I am missing something.

It may be teams do see things differently - but keep in mind there’s also a big financial incentive to wait on vets.

If a team signs a vet now and they make the roster - their salary is fully guaranteed for the season.   If teams wait until after week 1 - their salary is only week-to-week, teams can save a fair bit of $ with 3-4 signings that way (small at first but it adds up).    Given teams often feel like they have enough depth to get through week 1 - you see a lot more signings of vets after week 1.   Not to mention the sunk cost teams often fail to see with overvaluing the guys in their own camp.

Given Young played in LA it’s definitely an obvious fit.   But until we or other teams pass on him after week 1 games play - the financial part could be masking the situation here.  Not to mention teams still have to get to 53 guys for week 1.

Rather than go the vet route Evero & co. go with a guy who was signed as a priority UDFA by SF but could make the squad.   Just got cut yesterday.    Undersized, but insanely high motor and smart IQ.  He’s more of a hard hitting, run to ball guy than a cover guy - not surprising given how bad the 2nd/3rd string run D looked though that the FO went this direction for ILB depth mining.   It will be interesting to follow.

Do you guys think Dulcich will take Albert’s job by Week 5 or 6? I’ve never liked Albert and sounds like Denver doesn’t believe in him much either. Dulcich can be a very good TE in the NFL.

Pretty anecdotal, but looking at Dulcich’s body and considering he’s missed most of the offseason, kinda feel like he’s a year away from contributing / being on the field at a consistent level.

I think the TE position as a whole is so up in the air. Would not be surprised if Saubert plays the most as the most balanced TE on the roster.

If Albert O loses PT it’s probably to Saubert.  Dulcich could be the new long term guy (and why they prioritized him in Rd3).    But the lost time matters a ton.  And it’s very clear they want the TE to be serviceable blockers.   That’s apparently what is killing Albert O the most right now.

Dulcich is likely the guy you want to own long term in dynasty formats.   But so few rookies actually do anything.

Kyle Pitts is a generational freak talent.    Pat Friermuth was a great story but also benefitted from having zero competition.    He only had to beat 1 vet guy who was fading hard (Ebron).

FWIW if you have to look at rookies for 2022 alone guys like Bellinger (same situation as Friermuth) or Likely (BAL uses 12 formation a ton even on passing downs and has Delanie Walker profile <frame / blocking only knocks> ) are more likely to have a 2022 impact.    Or get a vet FA like Hooper (no comp so many vacated targets).  Dulcich is a guy to watch out for in 2023 but if you’re thinking 2022 redraft I’d go there.

FWIW if the odds are right (+500 or better) Saubert makes for a great week 1 TD prop.

Same. I’d be really mad if I was him. One day you’re a starter on a Super Bowl caliber team. The next, a crappy Broncos team with an inept head coach makes a desperation trade for you. You come in and start with zero notice or prep time, spend large chunks of the season showing major flashes in spite of learning a (mostly) new system mid season just to get dumped. And now he can’t seem to find a home. I really don’t get it either, but it makes me wonder if he doesn’t have some issues on the locker room side of things. There’s gotta be something else going on there.
