This seems like a freak occurrence, from time to time games are moved or cancelled with stuff like weather, it's part of the risk advertisers take. Nothing out of line here. If this was a thing we'd expect with concussions, sure, but this is a unique thing.
4thandInches
Great job by both coaches agreeing to this.

Jeezla
I think you suspend the game until you find out Hamlin is in stable condition, and if you don't get that information in the next hour, you call it regardless.
KingOfNewYork
Morally you cannot ask the Bills to go out there and play after that.
burlow
wondering if it could be COMMOTIO CORDIS, impact stopping a heart beat. I remember that this happened to a hockey player 20 years ago or so, nothing you ever want to see.

As horrible as the incident is, everyone that goes out there is aware of the risk and they are paid accordingly to do it. I understand how horrible something like this is, but it’s a decisions they all have came to terms with

Even putting the right thing to do aside, the nfl would look terrible if they made the bills forfiet

Soko
Career suicide if either of the coaches tried to force their guys on the field, sort of the no-brainer there
NoFlyZone
Some talk of commito cordis… not some sort of brain/ spinal impact injury. Edited January 3, 2023 by NoFlyZone

I'd be fine if they played if there was an update that he woke up and was going to be fine (this is what happened with Eriksen). But I feel the worst has happened, and you can't play a game after that. No team should have to be forced to entertain people after such a tragedy.
BlaqOptic
Rewatching the hit, Higgins torso goes square into Hamlin's chest. I'm thinking chest/heart issue similar to Eriksen definitely.
