The combine would get canceled before this would ever happen

Then maybe it needs cancelled.  Or at least cancelled as it is.  Keep it for official measurements, medicals, and increase the interviews.  Have the testing for those that want it, but if you test, you are doing 40, vert, broad, 3 cone, shuttle, and positional drills.  All the small school guys will still do it because they aren't going to get nearly as many eyes on them outside of Indy.  Let peer pressure do the rest.

So many guys opting out of tests undoubtedly made the TV product worse.  Somebody could probably make a good argument to the brass that it's costing them money and get it done.

Doubt it makes any dent in their pocket. I highly doubt it's costing them money anyways.

TV networks don't air the tests most guys are opting out of, with the exception of the 40.   Nobody is riveted by everyone's verticals and broads. They show a couple notable jumps and a couple 3-cone or shuttles during 4 days of broadcasts.   My viewing was not affected because JSN didn't run the 40 and Jalen Carter didn't work out at all

If anything my viewing is affected because of the worthless constant booth interviews instead of commentators actually talking about any of the prospects.   It is also affected because during the entire stretches of watching QB's throw you have no idea what receivers they are actually throwing to.   Personally, just like the Draft I'd like to see less worthless banter and more insight from Jeremiah and other scouts about the actual players

Texas Longhorns

From Tony Pauline (profootballnetwork):

Both Robinson and fellow Longhorn running back Roschon Johnson reportedly looked exceptional in position drills. In terms of where they could land in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, that remains up in the air. Both backs had dinner meetings with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday night ahead of Texas’ Pro Day.

....

Both Moro Ojomo and Keondre Coburn turned in good workouts at Texas’ Pro Day.

After weighing 292 pounds at the NFL Combine and timing 5.01 seconds in the 40, Ojomo put forward a time of 4.56 seconds in the short shuttle and 7.43 seconds in the three-cone. He looked agile and powerful during drills based on the film sent to me. Ojomo, who was one of the best interviews PFN did at the Shrine Bowl this year, is reportedly drawing some interest from the New England Patriots.

Coburn, meanwhile, looked very athletic in position drills, but his 322-pound frame ran out of gas toward the end of the workout.

.....

Tight end Jahleel Billingsley also participated in the pro day. The Alabama transfer, who played in two games for the Longhorns last season, measured 6’4’’ and 225 pounds, and was clocked as fast as 4.53 seconds in the 40 by a few teams.

Billingsley touched 36.5 inches in the vertical jump and 9’11’’ in the broad jump. The athletic pass catcher missed six games last season due to a suspension — carried over from his days at Alabama.

There is some uncertainty over what position Billingsley will play at the next level. Some see him as a possession receiver, some as a move tight end, and others as something in between the two.

.....

Receiver Tarique Milton timed the 40 right around 4.40 seconds, touched 34.5 inches in the vertical jump, and hit 9’10” in the broad jump. Milton is an interesting case. An explosive athlete who transferred from Iowa State after a bit of a falling out with the program.

A lot was expected from Milton coming into the season, but he only caught two passes for 40 yards. His production has really fallen off since his first two seasons at Iowa State, where he was a standout. Milton possesses the dimensions and style to be a slot receiver/return specialist but must really get his game back on track.

Why is Myles Murphy not running or doing anything?   That means that dude could absolutely fall out of the 1st round with that question of athletic ability hanging around.

Great athletic numbers for Simpson but to me he was crazy unproductive for a guy that athletic and fast.  He should have been way more dominating than he was.

Oregon Ducks

From Draftwire.com:

The headliner for the Ducks draft class is CB Christian Gonzalez, but he opted to stand pat on his outstanding NFL Scouting Combine workout numbers. Gonzalez, a potential top-10 overall pick and strong contender to be the first defensive back selected in April’s draft, did participate in position drills. He looked good, as expected.

The other top Oregon prospect, linebacker Noah Sewell, also opted not to participate in the athletic testing outside of agility drills. Sewell did position drill work as well. The 250-pound backer was cheered on by older brother Penei, the Pro Bowl right tackle for the Detroit Lions. The younger Sewell had a rough workout in Indianapolis but elected not to try and run more at the pro day, which indicates the sluggish combine performance wasn’t a fluke. Sewell currently projects as a middle-round prospect for a team that doesn’t mind heavy, slower LBs.

Wideout Chase Cota didn’t get a combine invite, but he had himself an impressive workout. Catching passes from 2024 draft prospect Bo Nix, Cota certainly helped himself according to Ducks beat writer Jared Mack,

Cota, who measured in at 6-foot-4, put up staggering numbers for his size with a 37.5 inch vertical jump, 10-foot-6 broad jump, and a 4.50 40-yard dash. With those numbers, Cota would have ranked 24th in 40 times, 14th in vertical jump, and 20th in broad jump.

Cota, a transfer from UCLA, caught 36 passes for 497 yards and three TDs in 2022, missing three games with an injury in his one season at Oregon. He is the son of former NFL safety Chad Cota.

Maybe he is hurt or something, still one has that question of just how athletic is he.  If he does nothing and never works out I could see him dropping to the 2nd round, especially since he is not really a 3/4 OLB and probably could not do that unless he shows great athletic ability.  Mike Morris who is a tank, he showed he probably cannot be a 3/4 OLB with his combine showing, great at the line and on the line of scrimmage but probably not athletic and bendy enough to be a good 3/4 pass rushing OLB.
