Former 2nd round of falcons Ambry Thomas 3rd round Logan Ryan Free agent add. Womack 5th. While they might not spend much early draft capital on the position they seemingly draft DBs in round 5 constantly. Their mode of building also only really works when u don't have Trent Baalke as GM cuz Trent can see a need and choose to ignore it like he did last year with The IOL and 3rd edge. I mean, i'd call that...investing appropriately in the Secondary. Dabbling with some Day2 Picks here and there, grabbing some guys off other teams for reasonable/cheap prices. Even just in that list, you can see how many of these guys didn't even make it to a second contract with their drafting team. Just floated off to become part of a Superbowl caliber secondary for someone else. I mean...just look at where all the Jaguars 1st round pick secondary guys ended up. Gone before their rookie deal even really ended. Even when you hit a homerun with a Jalen Ramsey...you can ultimately still find these guys in trade if you're a piece or two away and desperate. It's pretty much the same across all the divisional round teams as well. Just lots of Day2/3 guys, savvy FA pickups, and making do. The investment has to be up front in the trenches. The more pressure you can apply, the less you have to rely on DBs to win. Pressure is a much better bet than DBs holding up...especially in today's NFL. Even the best DBs can only cover so well, and for so long...and are going to lose more than they'll win against top weapons and clever scheme. McDuffie is really the outlier among championship caliber teams. As a late 1st. And he's awesome. If you're getting that caliber player...i guess it's fine, but the odds of that are pretty long. Most don't turn out that well. On 2/11/2024 at 7:34 AM, LinderFournette said: Cuz that is how u end up with the roster that looks like the jags. Jags have 2 many holes to afford that luxury. As for Kirks Contract. It's not bad. It shook up the wr market and Kirks earned the right to be a WR 2. Posted 1 1k yard season and was clearly on pace for another had he not gotten a flukey Core injury. U think its a coincidence our collapse happened after we lost Kirk. Kirk is Trevors most trusted weapon. Gabe Davis would probably be a WR 2 or 3. He's a bit inconsistent but the guy is a big play machine averaging 16.7 yards a catch. He's also got some size that Trevor would probably like to have. Nabers is better then Ridley especially as prospects go. it's a mute point cuz I don't think he will be there at 17 but if he was Trevor would tell Trent run that pick in asap. Nabers is closer to Chris Olave then Ridley. I feel like having "too many holes" is exactly why the Jaguars can afford the luxury of making a pick at a bunch of different spots and making a massive improvement to the roster at each. I'd prioritize WR -> OLine -> CB/DLine/Edge more or less equally as a third option. As to the bolded...Kirk is definitely not Lawrence's most trusted weapon. That's Evan Engram and it's not even close. I think that and his affinity for Zay Jones is just absolutely screaming for a big chain moving WR target. Kirk is...well, we're stuck with the stupid contract anyway. He's a fine homerun threat and WR2. But he's not a big chain moving possession target in the slightest, nor a big deep ball fade "go up and get it" target...and those are huge holes in this offense. As for the collapse of the offense...that fully coincided with Lawrence getting injured. Playing hurt. Playing concussed. He was just absolutely broken and shouldn't have been out there if they had an even halfway respectable backup. Kirk is just a secondary weapon, nothing more. Being paid like a top target. Which makes it that much more important to get an actual top target for Lawrence, on a contract that fits with what Kirk is already being paid. If they were able to land Tee Higgins, that'd be huge. But i just don't see how you can work in that kind of salary when you're already paying Kirk that huge "market shifting" money. Gabe Davis is...basically a WR3 on a group that was clearly not good enough. Inconsistent is the absolute last thing the Jaguars need. That's what they have and it's pathetic. They need consistent and guys who just make the catches, move the chains, and chew up yards that way. Not more dopes who are "all or nothing" and will either drop and easy 3rd down conversion or gain 50 yards on one broken coverage play. It would be such a catastrophic typical Jaguars thing to just sign a JAG filler floof like that to pad out the lower end of the depth chart, rather than actually going out and getting a true top target WR for Lawrence to work with...in the limited years remaining while he's still on that affordable rookie deal. Jaguars won't have a shot are Nabers or Odunze so that much is irrelevant...but there are some darn good other receivers that will be available. Who fit the exact sort of profile the Jaguars are sorely lacking in their receiving corps.

minutemancl
Solid selections for the Giants. If QBs go 1, 2, 3 and the Giants aren't in one of those slots via a trade up, Nabers is the next best option at 6. I don't mind the lottery ticket with Nix in the 2nd, and Beebe is a great selection at 47. Don't know anything about Elliss as a prospect, but the position is definitely the right direction to go in there.

Can't hate on that pick at all. In the 2nd round, missing out on Colson by one pick SUCKS! He'd be a great thumper in the middle where we DESPERATELY need help and I'd like to think we would trade up slightly to get him if he started to fall to us. That said, assuming we let Pollard walk and don't sign another RB in FA, Brooks is a solid RB with little wear on his tires who would fit McCarthy's scheme well. In the Third, I think we'd take Trotter over Bullard - with LVE likely medically retiring like Sean Lee did, and down to Overshown and Damone Clark as our only 2 Linebackers, we need a starter and we need serious depth. We were using Safeties at ILB last year and our interior run D suffered for it.

I know he is older and played in a weird offense, but he has a ton of high quality college starts and flashes his athleticism and arm. I'm 100% not sold on him as a franchise QB, but I'd be willing to bet on his traits and experience in the 2nd for sure. His "wow" plays rival any other QB in the class, including Caleb Williams. FalconFan13
Big fan of this new falcons draft Turner and Penix are great picks. I have Penix as my only other true 1st round QB after this big 3 JJ is pretty close with him though as i have both as late 1st early 2nds with Penix rated higher. Mcmillain and Sanri are solid enough picks no problems there. Overall B+ draft i could live with it on draft day i like all 4 players. Not great, and i'd definitely prefer some tweaks. I still don't love a DB in the 1st, but if they're gonna do it...getting a guy who just rocked the combine as an athletic stud with a ton of serious upside like Quinyon is about as good as it's going to get. 2nd Round WR feels like a great call in this scenario. I just don't really like Roman Wilson there, or for what the Jaguars need anyway. Especially with a guy like Legette still on the board, Tez Walker even, or Polk worst case. Just feel like they really need a guy with some size and some contested catch/chain moving ability. They've already got Kirk who is basically a much much better version of Roman Wilson. 3rd Round...Carter is fine i guess, but i don't really think it's a top priority spot to go after. I still think they're hoping to get improvement internally there with better health. The biggest thing is just...i don't think the Jaguars can leave Day2 without having addressed at least some facet of the OLine. They're not going to be able to get all the improvement they need out of Free Agency.

FalconFan13
Replace Lassiter in round 2 for Sweat at NT as we need a legit 3-4 NT way more than a #3/4 CB. We honestly don't have a NT right now on the roster to run this scheme like they have done with the Rams. Then go Draine and McMillain in round 3 and i think this draft is looking really strong for us. Grady Sweat Onyemata Turner Ellis Landman Ebeketie Thats a mighty fine looking front 7 i can get behind. Although i REALLLLLLLLLY hope the rumors were in talks with the Eagles to get Reddick is true. If we can get Reddick for 1 of those 3rds plus a 4th or so next year im all for it. Even if we did that i prob. still take Verse, Latu, or Turner at 8 and just take a CB in the 4th instead.
