Tricky with him. I think we can say now that any move he's made other than drafting has been a complete, sometimes unexpected, disaster. So the tricky part is his drafting has actually been pretty nasty. He did Surtain (Probowl) over Fields (Bowling Pins) which was pretty controversial at the time. That same draft he got Williams who IMO is probowl quality. Meinerz is at least sometimes decent which is more than we can say for the rest of our O line. Browning was flashing hard last year.

This year despite low picks, we got Mims who looks like he at least has pro-bowl potential (honestly more than Jeudy has ever shown because he can actually catch). We all saw how Sanders was flying around in the preseason looking great. Undrafted Mcglaughlin has definitely flashed.

Point being, George is pretty damn good in the draft compared to what we've had in past years. There is certainly no guarantee we would get a great drafter like that with his replacement. Again, I'm with you on the other stuff, I just wonder if Sean can figure out the coaching staff when he has a full offseason to work with. I guess there's still hope in me yet

George has made mistakes, some big ones, and I’ve been vocal about them, but he’s also a very well respected football man throughout the league.

He and Sean, from what I’ve been told by an insider, have a good working relationship and are on the same page even though it’s Sean, at least tacitly, with final-say. My friend compared it to the Lynch/Shanahan arrangement in SF - Sean tells George what he wants, George makes it happen. 

I've been a fan of this franchise since before he was born. He's done more to destroy this team than I would have thought possible. His propensity for firing entire staffs on a whim have made it virtually impossible to hire quality coaches and coordinators. He seems to have no clue that consistency has a great deal to do with success. I could go on but I won't right now.

I've listened to your Ellis/Elway rants for a decade. You'll just have to get used to mine.

Of all the things to fault Paton for, firing two lousy head coaches in Fangio and Hackett are not on the list. Of course, he did hire Hackett which ended up being one of his two massive blunders, but it was a good thing that they cut the cord unlike Elway “sleeping on it” with bringing back VJ in 2018 and wasting another season. 

And yes, Fangio was a lousy coach. I know this has been a point of contention for you but there’s no argument, it’s just objectively true. 19-30 record after three years building his program, two terrible OC hires, disliked by all his players, and sucked in his actual HC responsibilities on game day. Fangio needed to go. Not an NFL caliber head coach. Too bad they botched the next hire but this constant grumbling about Fangio is absurd. All that “consistency” in keeping him would have led to a fourth consecutive losing season. No thanks.

Staffs, entire staffs, great positional coaches, some of the best we've ever had. Get over your obsession with "HC's". The best part of Vic was the staff he hired. Between staff and consultants Paton's fired more talent than most teams ever acquire.

I don't think I've mentioned Vic for a year, another obsession of yours? Had he only fired Vic we wouldn't have the issues we have today.

I’d fire Paton for his terrible decision making, but in the spirit of consistency I’m ok if he sticks around a bit longer…although, this assumes we’re going to be successful in our pursuit of the #1 draft pick and will nail that selection. If that doesn’t happen, then they can go ahead and relocate this franchise so us fans can cherish our fond memories before they become too tarnished.

I think there needs to be a bit of perspective here -

Offensive coordinator – Pat Shurmur - now plying his trade with UC
Quarterbacks – Mike Shula - now an offensive assistant with the Bills
Running backs – Curtis Modkins - RB coach with the Vikings
Wide receivers – Zach Azzanni - WR coach with the Jets
Tight ends – Wade Harman - hasn't worked since sacked by the Broncos
Offensive line – Mike Munchak - retired
Assistant offensive line – Chris Kuper - OL coach with the Vikings

Defensive coordinator – Ed Donatell - spent a season with the Vikings - now out of a job and Fangio didn't bring him to Miami
Defensive line – Bill Kollar - retired
Assistant defensive line/assistant to head coach – Mike Hiestand - defensive assistant with Chargers
Linebackers – Reggie Herring - hasn't worked since sacked by the Broncos
Outside linebackers – John Pagano - hasn't worked since sacked by the Broncos
Defensive backs – Christian Parker - still with the Broncos
Defensive pass game specialist – Chris Beake - currently working with DBs with the Rams
Defensive quality control – Nathaniel Willingham - defensive assistant with the Jets

Special teams coordinator – Tom McMahon - ST coordinator with the Raiders (I suspect that McDisaster is the only one who would ever give this clown a job again)
Assistant special teams – Chris Gould - assistant ST coach with the Chargers

The only two from this that list that I would have wanted to keep are Parker - who is still here - and Kuper - who was dumped because Hackett wanted to bring in one of his buddy-buddies from Green Bay. If the rest of them were good positional coaches then why have the top teams not been hiring them - apart from Kuper and Modkins - the rest are out of a job or working for teams that are as bad or nearly as bad as the Broncos.

And do we really need to go through the list of the donkeys hired by Hackett?

Not that he is the mastermind behind the offense or anything, but I think its funny that us Broncos fans aren't acknowledging that Butch Barry is the OL coach of the team who just ran for 350 yards on us.

There were some good position coaches on the team last year, and not just on D. Kubiak and Azzanni specifically but I think Barry and Steele have promise moving forward. They just got buried under a ****e HC and OC

I remember Barry got absolutely roasted as being thoroughly unprofessional when he got canned last year.

Barry was a horror show as OL coach.   And as shiny as MIA's start is, their OL is their Achilles there.  BUF isn't a great front 4, but they absolutely wreaked havoc on MIA's OL; it's the formula to beating MIA's O (we just had no blanks to fire with, nor a DC with any creativity to exploit it).     BUF going to own on Sam Howell wasn't a surprise (WAS is on pace to give up 100+ sacks <lol - Howell owns some of that too, he's got Russell Wilson's trait there>), but demolishing the MIA OL in both pass pro and run game was a telltale sign.  

Steele might work out, but I lose zero sleep with Butch Barry no longer with us.    If MIA is serious about getting far in January, they'd be wise to part ways after this year too.
