2024 Coaching Staff Changes

Recommended Posts

We already know that there will be a couple of new faces on the defensive staff next year with Chris Rumph leaving the Vikings for Clemson, and Mike Smith being gone all year.

So, what other positions do you see changing? What positions would you like to see a change at? And who would you like to see added to the staff?

I have a hard time taking any survey that has Aaron Glenn and Thomas Brown listed as top 5 coordinators seriously.

It’s obviously a list based on likability, not ability.

You can’t write likability without ability ;)

I wonder if Brandon Staley would join our squad even if Flores stays with us?

I could easily see Staley coming in as the Outside Linebackers coach, and the eventual replacement for Flores. Mike Smith has been absent from the team all season, and I’m guessing he’s not returning.

On top of that, Staley might have a tough time getting a Defensive Coordinator job after how things went with the Chargers. He was a one year wonder at DC with the Rams, and he followed it up with 3 bad years on the defensive side of the ball with the Chargers. His résumé isn’t great. Although, with 1/3 of the league possibly looking for a new defensive coordinator, he may fall into one.

For what it is worth Matt Daniels was the #3 rated STC in this survey. I have to imagine that may factor into any decision KOC may, or may not, make.

Why? Kicking game was bad this year. Did we cover exceptionally well?

I think coverage they did fine...not exceptional. though.  And it's a survey of players, who certainly are going to take things into account beyond their own particular performance.

My post wasn't meant as defending Daniels, just pointing out that it seems the players like playing for him. KOC is all about the culture which is what I meant on that factoring into any decision that is made.

Joseph is a below-average kicker, Wright did seem to regress in the punting of the ball this season. With that being said I truly wonder what pointers Daniels can offer for them to improve their games? Is a kicking specialist needed to work with Joseph or whoever is kicking here next year? Is a punting specialist needed for Wright?

I don't recall either the kickoff coverage or punt coverage units giving up a return score this season. They were flagged for 11 ST penalties with the league average being 11.28, 12 other teams had 10, 11, or 12 ST penalties.

So it’s not about quality of ST coordinator but who is more likable? Doesn’t mean much to me at the end of the day if they don’t get better results. Kicks and punts were bad. Nothing else stood out in regards to the return game or coverage game. They have to all get better next year. If it’s on the players, find better ones.

Thompson and Ward were awesome on Special Teams, minus a few offsides by Ward.

Kicking was awful. Ryan Wright was pretty average. Snaps weren't an issue but DePaola is a stud.
