Brennen Rupp -  How I think it shakes out:

1. Allen Lazard
2. Christian Watson
3. Randall Cobb
4. Romeo Doubs
5. Samori Toure
6. Amari Rodgers

I personally don't think Sammy Watkins will make the roster. Maybe they keep seven.

This guy writes for USA Today covering the Packers?  I wonder what they pay him for gems like this.

It is more likely that Watkins is their leading receiver then it is he don't make the roster.

I think they will start out with 3 TEs with Tonyan on PUP. They could very well start out with 7 WRs. Who would you rather have Watkins or Dafney?

I anticipate no further vet WR additions.

Lazard, Watkins, Cobb, Watson, Doubs, and Rodgers give you six guys, plus Winfree and Toure, and whatever PS and UDFA.  For Winfree or Toure to beat out one of those six, they'd probably need to beat out Amari.  Watkins' contract allows it, I realize, and perhaps his whacky personality hypothetically allows it, too?  But drafting two guys in roster-lock rounds kinda adds a lot of definition to the group.

Found this pretty entertaining. Take the comps however you want, but I love me some Jones. They only talk about the WR's until under the 5 min mark. Rank's comments to Jones are great. Especially about the hoodie lol.

Why are all of you guys always cutting Malik Taylor before preseason even starts?

@craig probably has it correct.  There won't be any more vet WRs added.  I would say that the locks are Cobb, Lazard, Watson, and Doubs.  With very inside tracks for Watkins and Rodgers.  I can see them giving up on Rodgers if he stinks on ice, again; and Watkins could be gone if one of the other WRs not listed really shows out in camp and preseason, but I am not confident that any of that will happen.

We must also come to grips with the fact that Lazard is a veteran now.  He has been in the league for, four seasons now.

For arguments sake if it was either Julio or TY Hilton should the Packers bring in someone else for the purposes of helping the WR room this year? A solid, savvy vet that can teach the kids and not put all the pressure of production on the rookies.

Personally, I'm torn. I think Lazard can be our #1, like Cobb and Watkins they are #2/#3. I like Watson getting his touches. I like Amari and Doubs for depth. Just worried about the injury record for #1,#2#3.  If one or two of them go down then we are skating on ice I feel. But on the other side side brining in another vet could upset the balance.

Forgot he was on the roster still to be honest - he probably shouldn't be.

He's not a good receiver. He is a Special Teams specialist in a Special Teams unit that reached levels of incompetence that I truly thought was not possible - its still staggering to think how bad that unit was everyone associated with it should have been fired or cut. Not all Taylor's fault obviously but he made a number of gaffes and should go down with the ship.

Don't see the point of a vet WR coming in unless they are going to be WR1.  We have the numbers now, if its someone who will lead the unit then fine but otherwise stick with what we have.

  • 1. Watkins
  • 2. Lazard
  • 3. Cobb
  • 4. Watson
  • 5. Rodgers
  • 6. Doubs

Can see us starting season something like that with Watson used situationally. The three vets starting season with the younger guys progressing through the season. Looks to have a nice balance now and gives Rodgers a chance to spread the ball .

I'm still hating on us bringing in Watkins. Is that really the kind of guy you want surrounding your rookies and polluting their brains with his b.s. ideas. It's not only just that, the tape shows a guy who can't run anymore, he's no longer the guy you see in his college highlights. If he couldn't get it done with Mahomes in his age 25-27 seasons, supposedly the peak of a player's career then what makes us think he will get it done with Rodgers at age 29?

Julio Jones work ethic and professionalism is exactly the kind of player you want your rookies to be hanging around and learning from. He knows what it takes to reach the top. Watkins doesn't.

Anyway I honestly cannot see Watkins making it on the roster. He was cheap insurance in case the draft didn't work out but thankfully it did and so we don't really need him any more. He doesn't play ST so if he doesn't win a starting spot he's going to be cut. I'm fairly confident this is how it will shake out.

1. Lazard
2. Watson
3. Cobb
4. Doubs/Toure/Rodgers
5. Doubs/Toure/Rodgers
6. Doubs/Toure/Rodgers

depending on how the rest of the team shakes out then a 7th WR is a possibility but that will be 100% a ST pick.

7. Taylor/Blair

Many fans seem to ignore Lazard when they bring up the "need" for adding another vet.  Watkins has already been added, while Cobb and Lazard remain.  I'm not seeing a huge need to add another vet unless Watkins is a basket case.
