This isn’t news.

The war room is usually just the owner, owners wife and kids, GM, head coach, and maybe some assistants.

Not sure about other teams but there were a lot more people involved in the Chiefs war room (20-25 people from what I recall) when we got Mahomes.

This is basically what Dorsey did last year for the Browns. He wouldnt let anyone outside of his very close circle to see the draft board. He didnt tell Hue Jackson who they would take #1 until 11th hours because he knew he couldnt trust him at all.

He would have leaked that ish to Mike Silver.

Oh please. The media doesn't sensationalize stuff.  And the peddled NFL as entertainment and/or drama vs simply a sport? What ARE you smoking?

This story is so blown out of proportion by people that are oblivious to how scouting and scouting contracts actually work.

Scouts being done/sent home is common place for New personnel leader led groups and old ones alike as they are done with their work. It's now time for a selected group of personnel execs and decision makers to synthesize all information and formulate an executable plan.

It is common for scouting contracts to be out of contract the week or so before the draft. This happens in every scouting department. Literally, the day of the draft around the league scouts know they won't be back, some have been told they won't be renewed, others are allowed to stay around the process as a courtesy, only a select few stay in collaborative discussion with the GMs/lead personnel execs, the Patriots and Cardinals and many other teams are known to have very few people in the room during the draft. Everyone else is somewhere else in the building watching it unfold like the general public.

No one says anything when scouts and personnel execs are fired in mass 24-48 hours after the draft. This happens all the time. What? Did people think that 24-48 hours prior the fired scouts were aware of intimate details regarding the draft decisions and strategy?? Hell no they weren't. They were out the loop well ahead of their firing.

Scouting is a brutal business ... on the road away from family ... eating fast food on the run staying in cheap hotels ... getting fired the days before or after all your work comes to fruition.

This is media sensationalism. Mostly peddled as another storyline to keep the NFL supreme in people's minds as an entertaining drama.

100% this. This is an incredibly normal move by the Raiders. The scouts do their job during the season, get all the info for the GM and other execs, they build the board with that info, and the scouts start working on next year before the draft even starts. Most scouts don't even see the big board until after the draft (hell, some of them may never see it)

This is, from what I've been hearing, is why this is news.  This is the least subtle scouting department overhaul seen.  The funny one I heard involves the Steelers when Colbert came on board and some of Tom Donahoe's scouts were still around.  About a week before the draft, Colbert sent all these scouts to these random DIII and DII schools to start looking for the 2001 draft.  At the same time he had all the scouts turn in their 2000 reports, wipe all computers.  Him and Cowher kept the board in a random closet in Dan Rooney's office.  3 days after the draft, he got rid of everyone he didn't trust.

Based on what I was told, this style change is the more common style.
