Forge Posted August 31, 2019 Share Posted August 31, 2019 49ers cuts include Jordan Matthews and Joshua Garnett. Matthews was in a roster battle, and honestly I thought he had made it. Bourne flashes here and there, but his drops are brutal. But it looks like he showed enough. Josh Garnett has been a disaster since being drafted. Was horrible his rookie year, then basically could just never play again because every time we needed him, he had some small injury that kept him out for weeks. The fact that we can see all of these back up guards and centers getting moved for late round picks and we had to release Garnett really says all that needs to be said about him. You guys traded up to get that Garnett. The Chiefs swapped picks with you getting your 2nd round pick 10 picks later and picked Chris Jones. It received a scathing indictment from fans at the time. Not that we would have used that pick on Chris jones (we took Deforest Buckner at the top of the round). And while we did need interior line help, almost no 49er fan thought it was a good idea to make that trade up when there had been absolutely nobody from that interior line group taken at that point (with Ryan Kelly being on his own tier) and there were several who were all very similar. Most of us thought that the trade up was for Myles Jack, which also would have made a ton of sense. There was a loud uproar from our board when the trade and selection were made - people didn't think that it made any sense with Whitehair, Martin, etc still on the board.
