rip the careers of every future draft bust, no where left to go

btw, this league proved to us (same with the AAF) that a feeder league is needed. i really dont know how the g-league finds success but if the nba can do it why cant the nfl?

Tell that to someone with billions to spare and no concept of failing. I ain't buying it, even with these fat stacks from Covid.

Why not just start your own league? You are spending millions and assuming debt just to..... buy some team names and a league name

There are probably assets involved - equipment, naming rights, franchises, merchandise, contracts with vendors - things that take time and effort to set up.

Why go through that if it's already pre-packaged?

It wasn't working, I don't think even having Cuban's **** you money is enough to make it work. There's just no path to making the thing actually viable. It was dead with or without COVID.

yup. Doomed to fail from the beginning.

XFL already has infrastructure in place, easier. Less overhead, don't need to hire and staff an entirely new league.

No they don’t. They fired everyone but a few front office people. The television contracts were for one year and because they were similar to the AAF they weren’t even worth anything. They don’t own stadiums. They have no contracted players or coaches anymore. Also any vendor contracts they have left are likely going to be voided in the bankruptcy.Vince as the money man isn’t going to go in on someone else’s project.

Basically next to everything they set up is gone. Maybe at best they have equipment lying around and some merch that isn’t being produced anymore.

If you bought the league you would need to square away any debt you had, you would need to see contracts with all the staffs that would run the treats, renegotiate player and coach contracts from scratch, make deals with the stadiums again, make new tv contracts, make new deals with merchandise manufacturers.

This wasn’t a thriving business. This was a start up that essentially failed and then filed bankruptcy and released itself from any contractual obligations.

If you buy this league, you are paying to use the name XFL, the team names, and maybe whatever left over equipment and merch you might have that gets less valuable every second the league is doormant..

If you have the money to run a league, you are essentially starting from scratch anyways. Why not have your own legacy instead of someone else’s? Make up your own team names, etc.

Its not even like if the NFL failed and you had all these long-standing lucrative television deals and owned stadiums that you could run shows at beyond football and you had a 100 years of footage and history that you could market. Here you are paying to use the name of a league that failed twice that never had two full seasons over 20 years

Quote

Former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck has sued XFL owner Vince McMahon for wrongful termination, according to Daniel Kaplan of TheAthletic.com.

The lawsuit, as interpreted by Kaplan, suggests that Luck (who reportedly had a $20 million guaranteed contract) was terminated for cause, based on this line: “Mr. Luck wholly disputes and rejects the allegations set forth in the Termination Letter and contends they are pretextual and devoid of merit.”

The XFL ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy due to the premature termination of the 2020 season, resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The notion that Luck did something to justify being fired for cause one day before the league disbanded operations and laid off most if not all employees is highly coincidental at best, flat-out false at worst.

Vince McMahon doing Vince McMahon things

Things like this are why I never believed in the league. Vince is a carny at heart and he’s only out for himself. The first chance he got to bail out he did and in the process basically tarnished his word with all the employees and people laying the ground work on the league (and yes there are employees out there saying he basically just ended things and left them without the basic of courtesy’s most companies give employees).

Now the league is in debt, has no employees and the people who helped build it are at odds with the money man.
