I am seeing more and more people think he'd fit better in the safety/slot but I think he could play them all. Comes down to where you think he'll excel the most. I don't see why he couldn't be an ILB or even an MLB. Fred Warner was absolute crap at taking on blocks entering the draft. You can coach these kids. Feel like it's more so the argument of where does he fit most naturally/where will you get the best version of him? We drafted Myles Jack who projected as a natural WLB and slotted him at MLB the last couple years because we thought the same thing. Now he's moving to WILL and we spent $8-$10M per to get a more natural fit with Schobert in there next to him. I think if you want to draft Simmons and have him at his best safety or WILL is it. If you can be patient with him for a year, he can be an MLB.

Outside of QB's (and at this point even that expectation appears to have shifted in the league), if you're selecting a player in the Top 5-6, you're doing it with the expectation that he'll be an instant impact. Fred Warner learned to take on blocks. Fred Warner was also taken in the 3rd round. I'm not trying to compare Simmons to Curry here, but we're both old enough to remember Aaron Curry, the "safest pick in the 2009 draft." I also would've hated drafting Myles in the top 10 if the plan was to move him off a natural fit like WILL and not see an instant impact/that not work out like it has. You take the chance with Simmons that it happens. So imo, I don't think that's a smart idea for anyone taking him top 10, which is where he's going. (I know Myles and Simmons aren't the same player, but moving a guy from a more natural position to another isn't seamless and things can go wrong. In the top 10, I'm not chancing that). Couldn’t agree more. Like i get he is versatile but man let him be a beast at what he does before trying to turn him into a Madden player that can start any position if you force him there

You could have him play wlb year 1, then move him to mlb year 2 if he's showing added strength and take on/shed ability.
