Strangest careers

Which players have careers that just came off as odd to you?

Kerry Collins springs to mind for me. Besides somehow lasting 16 seasons, he performed in three dubious games:

1. Super Bowl XXXV - This one we all remember. It is truly the single worst performances from a QB that played from start to finish.

2. 2009 vs. Jets - Finished the game with 13 straight incompletions.

3. 2009 vs NE - 2/12, -7 yards and a pick. This was when our defense sucked too.

Kurt Warner

He threw a ton of interceptions for a HOF guy.

I always find it funny that Chris Weinke went from HS football and baseball superstar... to FSU Football commit... to 2nd round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays... to buried in the Blue Jays' minor leagues for six years... to a 26 year old freshman QB at Florida State... to a 28 year old Heisman winner... to starting QB for the Carolina Panthers... to winning his first start as a Pro... then losing his next 17 games as a starter.

I guess it's not weird, but it certainly not something you see daily.

I'm amazed in general at how much those Rams teams turned it over

1999 - 31

2000 - 35

2001 - 44

Ricky Williams imagine if he wasn’t a pothead and had above average work ethic.

His issue was he had untreated mental disorders, not work ethic/"pothead". Same thing for Randy Gregory for the Cowboys. He has very severe bipolar. He smokes weed to calm his demons.

As for this thread: Laurent Robinson was like crazy good for 1 year in his life. Miles Austin was crazy good for like 20 games - ESPN actually declared him better than Andre Johnson at one point. Jimmy Smith kept getting cut until he found a home with the Jags.

^^ A lot of these are due to injuries, but they are the first ones that come to mind ^^

Dimitrius Underwood

Dimitrius Underwood
Underwood, who separated his shoulder in the preseason, had been expected to begin working out again this week.

Minnesota Vikings[edit]

Underwood was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round (29th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft, after his stock rose with his pre-draft workouts. On August 1, he signed a five-year, $5.3 million contract with a $1.7 million bonus. He walked out of training camp the next day on August 2, after the first practice and never returned. On August 13, he was waived and forfeited a $1.75 million bonus saying he could not resolve the conflict between playing football and serving his Christian faith.[2]

Although he eventually returned, he was released later that month and had to give back his signing bonus to the Vikings.

Miami Dolphins[edit]

On August 16, 1999, Underwood was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins as 23 teams passed on him. He was signed for $395,000, played in only one preseason game before injuring his shoulder and also showing a lack of focus on football. Multiple times during team meetings, Underwood was found not taking notes, but instead writing about the apocalypse. He only played in the last preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, suffering a dislocated left shoulder.[3]

Although he made the team, he was deactivated for the first 2 games because of his injury. In September, Underwood was arrested by police for failure to pay child support for his 17-month-old twins. Following the team's bye week, he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on September 28.

Underwood later spent two months in protective care and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After he escaped from a psychiatric care facility, he was released by the Dolphins on December 17.[4]

Dallas Cowboys[edit]

On March 10, 2000, he signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, who took a chance on him because of the earlier success the team had with Alonzo Spellman who also suffered from bipolar disorder............................................................................................................................

In January 2001, he tried to kill himself for the second time by running into traffic twice on a busy suburban highway.[6] During the season he appeared in 4 games, making 3 tackles, 2 quarterback pressures and one pass defensed. He was released in October after he missed practices and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
