There are some device folks in Poland who figured out how to make them with simple, available parts and 3D printing.
They are sharing the instructions globally. I have no idea if this is viable or not, but know this: the world is working on this 24/7

https://www.3dprintingmedia.network/poland-ventilaid-open-source-3d-printed-ventilator/

What materials are they printed with? Are those plastics prone to toxic offgasing? What is the predicted lifetime of the valve? They definitely aren't sterile, how do you sterilizing them? I doubt a 3D printer can print a surface finish fine enough to be usable. Has the packaging been cleaned and validated? No way hospitals can use those. Malpractice lawsuits are still a thing.

It takes yeeears to introduce a new medical device to production, or even for an existing device to be approved from a new manufacturing facility.

No, I'm just actually reading the research and listening to what real experts are saying / looking at data

Rather than watching CNN all day hearing a siren outside and pooping my pants

(also, are you talking just US, or worldwide?)

US deaths, following a 33% daily growth rate for 21 days.

And yes, hopefully we did enough to stave off the spread. But we really don’t know if we did yet. And when you now have people like my state’s lieutenant governor saying that we should just stop trying and go back to normal and let people die to save the economy, there’s legitimate concern that we won’t keep up with it long enough to see it bear fruit.

Gotcha.

And yes, that would be a bad idea.  The damage economically has already been done.  May as well let it ride another couple of weeks and see what happens.

My county finally got access to tests on Friday; and still only were able to do 3 on Friday. They still have to send them off for testing elsewhere. They got back their first positive result today. I’m assuming it was from one tested on Friday. So we’ll see what happens with that.
