Hard pass. I would much rather we find some DL talent, and maybe an ILB to pair with Marshall if possible.

I wasn't saying that I want us to be the team to pay Flemming 8M+, only that he may demand that.

I am not too down on our DL talent and don't think we need to pay for more. We are very stout against the run, and improving the pass rush will require spending a ton on some 34DE talent. That's not a priority to me. I think a rotation of Wolfe/Gotsis/Walker/Harris is adequate and has decent potential to surprise. In fact Shelby Harris at 4.5 sacks would give him the 6th most sacks of any DE on the market this offseason (Behind guys about to get paid; DeMarcus Lawrence, Adrian Clayborne, Julius Peppers, Ezekiel Ansah, Alex Okafor).

I truly think the DL is a strong spot with nice growth potential. If Peko retires, that changes in a hurry, but right now IMO a Peko successor is the only thing we really need. I wouldn't cut a vet like Peko who is a great locker room guy and had a elite run stopping year for the chance to pay someone like Poe 10M+ per season on a longer deal. Keep this unit together, love the toughness.

ILB is a big issue though and we should be able to find a starter for relatively cheap IMO. There are a ton of talented guys there. I still like Avery Williamson and have wanted him since the draft. Solid all around ILB who should come cheap. The list is night/day compared to the OT talent lol: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/inside-linebacker/

Might be an unpopular opinion around here but I’m all for spending the money on Cousins. And if that happens I’d be really hoping we go BPA and have Barkley fall to us. This guy is special and with a competent passer waking up our two weapons with DT and Saunders, our O could be scary good again. Obviously the line has to improve and we still don’t know what we’ve got in Butt, but to me it’s more important to snag another elite playmaker.

Signing Kirk means we have to cut Talib, which seems too much like one step forward, one step backwards to me. We could sign Kirk and draft Barkley, but would also have to cut Talib and would have only draft picks and vet minimum deals available to upgrade the OL, ILB, WR3 and TE. And we would need to find a reliable 3rd CB to run our defense, but again would have little draft capital or FA cash to do so. That's a bit concerning.

This news though is a major problem to our DL depth.  Wolfe our best two way DE by a mile.  This is a big problem if he had experienced stingers or symptoms which led to the diagnosis.

Ya, that's bad news. Now, if Walker plays like a R2 pick we should be able to survive but I have my doubts. Gotsis is what he is, a great run stopper with limited pass rushing skills. I think he has the natural talent to improve rushing the passer, its not an athletic limitation but rather poor pass rush technique IMO. Shelby Harris may be one of the better 34DE pass rush specialist in the league at this point. Add a 5th 34DE as Wolfe insurance and we are good to go IMO.

Just heard on the radio that Elway, Russell and Kubiak are heading down to Dallas right now to watch the Cotton Bowl, which features U$C's Sam Darnold, tonight.

Nice to see Kubes going out there. At least it'll add more war stories at the bar.

Saquon Barkley is unbelievable. He is, quite honestly, the best college football player I can remember watching.

If we get a QB in free agency then Elway should really think long and hard about going up to #3 for him (assuming QBs go 1 and 2). If we're picking 5th and the QBs are off the board then we could maybe be able to get a fairly cheap trade up, and I think he will have as big an impact as Gurley and Elliott have had on their offenses.

Wholeheartedly agree and then some. If they land Cousins (or Smith/Taylor/etc) they would be well served to have a complementary running game. Barkley is special. He's generational. It would be well worth our effort to get him if our biggest need gets addressed elsewhere

I absolutely wish I was alive to have seen him. My dad used to talk about him very fondly. I have an old Earl Campbell jersey actually.

He was, without a doubt, the most punishing RB I've ever seen.

I have a hard time trading up for Barkley when we could possibly get Rashaad Penny in round 2 who looks to be like  a Kareem Hunt jr. 5' 11 220 can catch, run, do it all only question marks are level of competition.

Runningback is the biggest position where injury concerns are there. For every AP and LT there's a high end rb who doesn't have the longevity.
