1.26 - Jordan Love [QB; Utah State] - QB1

The problem with the trade idea is that you invested a 1+4 in him. Sure, it was a late 1, but what are the odds that you do much better than that in a trade?

If he looks all-world in the preseason, GB will want to move forward with him. If he merely shows a modicum of potential, then you're not getting much more than you invested in him already, and now you're still looking for an heir apparent.

The idea of the QB groom and trade is so overblown by Packer fans, because Wolf managed to do it a couple times with mid-to-late round picks. To attempt it with a mid round pick is a low percentage proposition, but at least the investment is low too.

To do it with a 1st round pick is a waste of resources.

Love is the heir unless he completely flops, full stop.

This line of thinking makes no sense to me.

You either hate the pick on the basis of the philosophical decision to build for the future rather than going all in, or you don't. The fourth round pick is basically meaningless in that sense.

If you don't hate it on the basis of the long term investment and you hate it on the basis of the player selected, again, the fourth round pick is basically meaningless in that you think we just flopped on our QBOTF.

After seeing how the rest of the draft fell, I’m more on board with drafting Love.  I’m not sure there was any path to Green Bay matching needs with value in this draft.  Might as well take a swing at the top for a franchise altering player,

???

I was just being specific about what was invested in him, with regards to compensation in a future trade. I said nothing about how I feel about the pick. This wasn't about that.

My only real point was that taking a QB with a 1st and then thinking you're going to get a 1st back, much less that it will be a 1st overall or top 5 pick, is folly. That's all.

Of course what could happen is this could make Rodgers actually not a stubborn QB who takes his mystique too seriously.  He could start giving his receivers chances now knowing that Love is on the roster, Packer fans can no longer say, “What are you going to do, bench him for Boyle?”

It could make him realize that he can’t hold onto the ball forever or take unnecessary hits knowing that if he comes off the field he might not get back on the field.

He could take it as a wake up call that LaFleur is the head coach and he is the quarterback.  This very well could have been the move that turned Aaron’s career around and we could be looking at a Jimmy G scenario where we trade Love for a first round pick instead of Rodgers.

Exactly. Hopefully it's a wake up call that also secures the future.

These guys don't have time for games.

This is about MLF wanting his guy for his system. He doesn't want any part of MM's playbook mixed in etc etc. He's gonna play it as cool as possible, but that's the end goal. This weekend shows that. How this works with Rodgers remains to be seen but I suspect it's not gonna end well.

Lol

Love was fine but then what they did after

lol

Gute and MLF think they are starting an expansion team.

It'll be fine going down the road, but this idea they were going to go OMFG WIN NOW NOT TED AND FAT MAC is hilarious, they're probably worse in that regard.

This draft and this FA is garb

I am fine with Love as a prospect.  I very much understand the concept of going after a "franchise" QB.

The timing feels 1or 2 years early.

-------------

Prediction:  GB is moving on from Rodgers after the 2020 season.

Yes the 2021 cap hit for trading Rodgers is ..... massive at $30+Million,  but getting Love reps on his rookie deal also matters in order to capitalize on the rookie QB contract for those last couple years.

Next years draft class is then foundation for a run at the superbowl in 2022 -2025 years.

Comp picks from bulaga and Martinez paired with picks from a Rodgers trade surrounds Love with players to grow with.

He's talking about JL....

Ross Uglem -   It's like Favre and Mahomes had a baby.

We should sign Jameis Winston so that Jordan Love can learn from the most aggressive QB and the least aggressive QB for two years and come up with the perfect balance.

It is what you would get if Yoda and Sidius sat down and had a long heart to heart and decided to share Anakin.
