That's more to do with the state of the AFC South. For a good five or so years, BoB has went up against powerhouse HCs such as... Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Mularkey, Chuck Pagano and Doug Marrone. QB play in the division can be best described as Andrew Luck every other year, and then a bunch of Blake Bortles and Marcus Mariota (along with a healthy dose of Jacoby Brissett). At his disposal, he had JJ Watt, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, DeAndre Hopkins and Deshaun Watson - all at the height of their respective careers ('Dre was at the tail end, but was still a 1,000 yard WR). BoB makes the playoffs because the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans have been below average over the past six years; With the exception of 2019 and 2020 the AFCS has two teams picking in the top 10 since BoB took the HC role in Houston. Outside of 2019/2020, at least one team was picking top 5. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, both Jacksonville and Tennessee were picking in the top 5. (No offense, but Jax/Ten were Cleveland bad for a while...) Sure, every other team in the division has made an AFCCG in that timeframe as well, but those are exceptions to the standard rule. The standard rule is that the AFCS is a very bad division, and BoB was able to take advantage of that - depending on guys like Watt, Hopkins, Foster and Watson to simply be better than anyone else on the field and carry everyone to a victory.
