There will be a competition but you have to favor Wentz slightly over Hurts. Can’t see them trading Wentz and taking the cap hit unless some team pays up multiple 2nd round picks. Still makes no sense to me.

They have to pay him as the starter or the backup. It will have nothing to do with the starter job. If Hurts plays like this the next 3 games then Wentz is the backup next year, no question. Its not fair to say no one likes Wentz but he is clearly not a leader (Hurts already is a better leader) It was plain as day that Foles was 10x the leader that Wentz was Wentz being publicly sad that he did not play after they won the Super Bowl was a top 100 most pathetic loser moments in NFL history There is no concern about hurting his fragile young ego because this is year 6. He is who he will be. He has not lost his job due to injury like 2017 and 2018. He lost it due to bad play and bad decisions and inability to properly use the resources the team has on offense. They will not play the worse of 2 QBs because of money. Edited December 14, 2020 by SkippyX

The cap hit is the same either way, I'm not sure why you would then risk having to pay him an additional 40 million in real cash on top of it (obviously if they can't find someone to take him in trade that does kind of screw that notion)
Forge
49ers at pick #12. If they can keep it around that mark, probably keeps them high enough to get either of the two remaining QBs who don't go 1-2. Puts them in reasonable trade up range. If KC beats the Saints and the Rams beat the Jets now we are talking about both Saints and Rams (10-4). Things are looking very very interesting in the NFC top 3 seeds. if i remember the playoff structure correctly, the only seed that matters really is #1 and GB should have the inside track. And he better teams in the NFC are all grouped together, i dont think theres any one team far and away better. once you get to like the top 6... heck, even WFT could be a problem with that defense. Its a bit less ugly after 2021 so that would be the only reason. No one is giving them anything of value for Wentz and his contract and they are not going to cut him and eat 34.6 million. If you cut him and pay a backup then it actually costs you more money. In 2022 you can cut him for just under 10 million.

Yeah unless something has changed, I thought only the top seed got a bye this year.

And you need two QBs anyhow especially when one is a run pass option guy. The Eagles don’t have the cap to make huge splashes and contend next year given how poorly they’ve drafted and their pitiful O-Line. Hurts will get killed barring a miraculous turn around. Let Wentz contract roll or if he bounces back, franchise and trade him. Can’t trade him this off season and expect anything in return. Where is he gonna go? WFT?
