Stafford traded to the Rams for Goff, multiple FRPs

People saying this is a bad deal, maybe it's you that overrate draft picks? Without a QB you're nothing in today's NFL and finding a franchise QB in the draft after the top12 picks is immensely hard nowadays. Same thing I'm saying throughout the Watson's thread where people are offering 2 1sts plus a young QB bust and thinking it'll get the deal done.

Think of it this way: Stafford is a high 1st round pick himself, so you gave up a 1st and a 3rd as compensation for Matt and for Detroit to take that horrible contract that'll be even worse in 2021 and Rams are in win now mode, they can't waste Donald's career.

Not only that, but we're in the cycle of developing good players who leave and get us comp picks. We haven't had a first rounder in the McVay era but we still draft well and end up with 7-10 picks each year.

First round picks are vastly overrated.

Copying this from elsewhere, but last 4 healthy seasons from both guys:
Stafford averaged roughly 4100 yards, 25 TD, 10 INT and 95 QB rating
Goff averaged roughly 4300 yards, 25 TD, 12 INT and 94 QB rating

This was clearly more about McVay and Goff having a bad relationship and the team wanting him and that contract gone.

Lions willing to eat that money while having a QB who performed just as well but who is younger. If he does not do well in 2 years they have the draft capital to move on.

Dude he's been on the Detroit Lions.

He's had 12 years and he's made the playoffs, what, once? Actually watch the guy play and tell me he's some elite QB. Tell me he makes the plays when his team needs him to. No one can.

Yep. And Stafford had ridiculously high passing TD shares for three of those four years. Goff's, meanwhile, were extremely low. I loathe this trade.

Stafford been balling in the Honda Civic. McVay is handing him the keys to a Lambo.

No, he really hasn't.

Stafford forced it entirely too much when the Lions had an average to very good defense in 2011-2014.  He's a much better QB now, but he's never done it.

No question the talent is there, but he's never played clean in a pressure game.

We're going to find out soon, though.

Offensive genius McVay was right there next to Goff getting embarrassed by Belichick. He got schooled.

yea, cuz Goff sucks anytime he gets pressure. happened against the eagles and bears that same season too. played like a total weener when he got consistent pressure in the 1st quarter of a game.

Quite possibly.

Stafford had a great defense in 2014. They still lost in the first round of the playoffs against Dallas (despite leading 20-7 in the 3rd quarter). It's incredible that people are making excuses for a guy not having accomplished anything after 12 years in the NFL. God help McVay if Stafford doesn't take him to a Super Bowl.

So the one year out of his entire career he had a great defense he went 11-5?  And you don't think if he had a great defense every single season of his career, like say Ben Roethlisberger, he might have a playoff win or two under his belt?
