70% of fully vaccinated prisoners caught COVID-19 in a Texas Delta outbreak, the CDC says — but vaccines protected against severe disease.

More than two-thirds of fully vaccinated people in a Texas prison caught COVID-19 during an outbreak of the Delta variant in July, but vaccines protected against severe illness, a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.

The actual important part of the article that got left out, before people start ranting about whether vaccines work:

Most of the prisoners were white men, and many had received Pfizer's vaccine at least four months before the outbreak, the data showed.

People with limited active antibodies from the initial vaccination can still get sick without a booster, but they didn't get severely sick.

@LETSGOBROWNIES I read up that your district is going back to "optional" masks. Good times. Lots of data to back that up, or something.

Awesome stuff…

They are putting on this whole production about data collection, and monitoring stuff, etc. while also letting kids just opt out with a note from their parents.

It’s an absolute clown show.

Also worth noting that prisons are the worst case scenario because of the close quarters and lack of ability to isolate people. So they’re just constantly being exposed and re-exposed and eventually it’s going to break through when you’re seeing those number of exposures.

All but three unvaccinated prisoners caught it. So even if if didn’t also see break throughs, there was still 40+ repeated exposures from different sources that the majority of those prisoners experienced. Eventually you’re gonna catch it with that many exposures. And it grew even more after all the break throughs.

So 70% infection rate does not mean 30% efficacy.

Thankfully ours can also get a waiver signed. A local teacher and coach just died of Covid yesterday.

My wife’s coworker’s kid got an ear infection, strep, and COVID all at the same time.

The system is working great, guys.

I just find the “we’re gonna review the data” line to be especially comical.  Like, there’s plenty of data available that show masks work.  We don’t need your flawed data lol.

They’re pandering, simple as that.

"We're going to review the last several levy votes and make our decision accordingly, because we need funding."

Agreed. Beyond close quarters many prisons have notoriously bad ventilation systems.

Cool. It’s been a disaster here. Tbh, optional masks in my area last year would have been fine too outside of one month, but here it’s been awful. Covid everywhere and multiple teenage hospitalizations and ventilators, including teacher deaths in the area.
