Teams required to add a “diverse person” on staff as Offensive Assistant

Are there any NFL teams that don't have at least one minority offensive assistant?

I'm not sure how this affects anything...

I suppose it depends on what they are classifying as an assistant. If they are categorizing positional coaches as assistants, then yeah, I feel like there is no way in hell that there is a team in the league that doesn't have at least one minority position coach.

I'd be shocked if any team wasn't already in compliance.

This feels like the NFL just putting more stuff in writing to cover bases.

That said, why specifically offense? Why not STs, where there is a lack of representation in both coaches and ST specialists?

Seems like a very token move to me, where someone can say "Hey, we have this rule!" that will ultimately just become a deflector from criticism going forward.

Why just offense? Why not defense and ST too, as well as their scouting dept and the medical/training staff too?

what a weird non-move for the NFL to announce… their true motivations are totally transparent

I don't think this changes anything. A Better solution would be to require 50% of a teams coaching staff to be made up of diverse candidates.

In addition, require all teams to have an assistant GM and either the Assistant or primary GM must be diverse.

IN ADDITION, Between HC, OC, DC, and STC 50% (separate from my first suggestion) must be diverse.

I don't know that any of this is even enough but it would put more candidates in a position to show their talents.

That actually sounds like a far worse solution, mandating hiring quotas above population level statistics

Makes sense because offensive assistants can fast track to being a HC faster than a Defensive or ST assistant can.

the ultimate goal is more “ethnic” head coaches for PR purposes, and to get that then more offensive assistants need to be groomed

Honestly, you're probably right. But at the same time, I feel like there's only one other alternative.  Force out certain ownership who refuse to hire diverse candidates.

Me either. I feel like every team meets this requirement.

The Falcons don't have an offensive assistant who is a minority with the title "offensive assistant". I think that's what it means. Kind of like the minority coaching internship, but a full time position instead.

Falcons have Dwayne Ledford (OL coach), Mario Jaberaeel (asst OL coach), Michael Pitre (RB coach) and Charles London (QB Coach) who all fit this if it's not about the actual title "offensive assistant". The real thing teams should do is give them a 3rd round pick for a HC who is a minority getting hired. I think that makes more sense.
