Re-Grading your teams 2018 draft

Round 1 - Mike McGlinchey - I think he was an average to slightly below average pass protector and a very good run blocker at his best. His run blocking has slipped the last few years while his pass blocking has been fairly solid. For the 9th pick, you expect something better than this from your RT. Still, he's not a total failure and he did some good things and brought stability to the position when he was on the field. I'd give this pick a B-/C+.

Round 2 - Dante Pettis - Started off well in year one and had the route running and separation of a potential #1 WR. But it quickly became clear that he was allergic to contact and just was not going to be a fit in this system, especially with how much Kyle likes using the middle of the field. When you take into consideration the trade up and additional picks used on Pettis, this was a dud of a pick. D

Round 3 - Fred Warner - Really do not need to explain this pick or the grade. A+

Round 3 - Tavarius Moore - When you get to the comp picks or the latter picks in round 3, you just hope you can get someone that can contribute in a back up role or in STs. Moore was a very good STs player and played very good in coverage when he got his shot at FS, but he just did not take the best angles and was not a great tackler. Then he suffered his big injury and lost a step this past season. C-

Round 4 - Kentavius Street - Street was a decent rotational player that did not have any big strengths. He was a strong player but not necessarily great against the run or pass. He was picked up by the Saints last season and seemed to have a decent season so good for him. Street did about you expect from a 4th rounder. B

Round 5 - DJ Reed - I was about as certain about Reed as any pick in this draft when we got him in the 5th. I just knew he was going to turn out to be a good player. Even though he did not shine here, he played some great ball in Seattle and NY shortly after. The FO took a gamble by releasing him and putting him on IR when he got hurt and the Seahawks picked him up right away. He's a baller....Hard to grade because the player he has turned out to be would be an easy A for the round he was selected in....But all his best play happened on other teams lol. Still, going to say B just because the team got it right on the talent.

Denver Broncos: 2018

Overall grade: D

1. Bradley Chubb (DE/OLB, NC State): B-. He started strong that year, getting 12 sacks and winning DROY. He has also made two Pro Bowls. However, the Broncos may have selected him because Elway was afraid of taking Josh Allen (according to D-Mac, a Denver radio personality, they looked at him, and still passed) two years after the Paxton Lynch debacle, and they didn't know who else to take (Chubb wasn't in anyone's mock draft to Denver, and they really didn't consider him. He was more of a 4-3 end, and Denver ran a 3-4 at the time).

2. Courtland Sutton (WR, SMU): B+. Second round steal. Made the Pro Bowl in 2019 and started strong, but hasn't been the same since being hurt. Still may be a possible trade candidate.

3 (pick 71). Royce Freeman (RB, Oregon): C. Showed promise initially, but never really lived up to it. Was beaten out by the undrafted Phillip Lindsay.

3 (pick 99). Isaac Yiadom (CB, Boston College): F. Terrible. Surprised that he is still in the league.

4 (pick 106). Josey Jewell (ILB, Iowa): B. Steady, if unspectacular performer. Had 128 tackles last year, and 113 in 2020.

4 (pick 113). DaeSean Hamilton (WR, Penn State): D. Did have 81 catches his first three years (not bad for a third and fourth WR), but really wasn't that great.

Their last four picks (Troy Fumagalli, Sam Jones, Keishawn Bierria, and David Williams) all get F's. None of them had success in Denver or anywhere else.

1. Billy Price - F - Over drafted. Terrible starter. League back up.

2. Jessie Bates - A - Pro Bowl safety. Huge contributor.

3. Sam Hubbard - A- - Very solid edge. Great run defender, huge locker room guy. Adds a bit as a pass rusher.

3. Malik Jefferson - F - Just an athlete. Quickly waived. Contributed nothing.

4. Mark Walton - D - Another poor pick at the time. Poor athlete, legal issues. Pretty sure he's no longer in the league. Contributed nothing.

5. Davontae Harris - C - Didn't do much for us, but pretty sure he latched on elsewhere and started some games. Contributed very little.

5. Andrew Brown - F - Never saw the field. Quickly waived. Contributed nothing.

5. Darius Phillips - C+ - Could never crack our lineup but had talent. Still floating around the league. Contributed very little.

7. Logan Woodside - F - Pretty sure he's an XFLer-type now. Contributed nothing.

7. Rod Taylor - F - Practice squad and injured. Contributed nothing.

7. Auden Tate - C+ - Could never crack our lineup but had talent and flashed. Still floating around the league. Was hoping he saw targets in Atlanta, never happened.

OVERALL: C

One of our worst drafts in recent years. Bates was a homerun. Hubbard a long term starter. Other than that, pretty terrible.

yep.. pretty bad

Bates (home run), Hubbard (really good player) and Tate for a 7th rounder was good too he contributed a good bit.

Other than those three total crap. That Price pick turned out to be as bad as about anything they have done.. I mean no Sean Brewer, but bad.

Steelers

1.  Terrell Edmunds S -  C+

Better than expected and decent compliment to Minkah, but still not worthy of his 1st rd status.   Decent.

2.   James Washington WR - D-

Wasted pick, even at the time.   Just a terrible draft selection all around that barely contributed anything.

3.  Mason Rudolph QB - D+

Decent at best backup.   Never worth a 3rd rounder.

3.  Chuks Okorafor OT - C+

Average at best starter.  Would be a good swing tackle.

5.  Marcus Allen S - D-

Has hung around much longer than he should have.   Offers nothing.

5.  Jaylen Samuels RB -  D

Not much to say.  Waste.

7.  Josh Frazier -  F

Dont think he ever saw the active roster.

Bottom line:   Good riddance, Colbert.  Your outdated philosophies and mediocre drafts over the last 5-10 years have set this team back in a pretty significant way.

Cardinals

1.15 - Josh Rosen, QB | Grade: F

  • Unfortunate

2.47 - Christian Kirk, WR | Grade: B+

  • Above average pick

3.65 - Mason Cole, C | Grade: C

  • Did manage to start for a few seasons (somehow), and appears to still be in the league somewhere else so not terrible.

4.134 - Chase Edmonds, RB | Grade: B

  • Had a few solid seasons before leaving and heavily regressing

6.182 - Chris Campbell, CB | Grade: F

  • Quickly released and bounced around practice squads

7.254 - Korey Cunningham, T | Grade: A-

  • Actually started for the second half of 2018 (not saying much considering the quality of the team), and then spent a few more seasons at other teams.

Overall Grade: D+

  • A few decent players but none are still on the team, and it's difficult to get over the Rosen pick.

For the Saints F

14.  Marcus Davenport - Traded up for him using a future 1st when other guys like Derwin James, Lamar Jackson, and others were still on the board.  When he was healthy he was very disruptive even if it didn't show up on the stat line.  The problem was his availability was definitely the worst stat of his stat line. F

91.  Tre'Quan Smith - Super inconsistent WR that has had moments where you think he finally is going to put it together, only to not be that guy again for the rest of the season.  Hope him the best in his next team.  F

127.  Rick Leonard - Who? F

164.  Natrell Jamerson - Who?  F

189.  Kamrin Moore - Who?  F

201.  Boston Scott - Apparently a 3rd or 4th RB for Philly since the 2018?  F

245.  Will Clap - He's a depth IOL and has been solid in a few starting situations even.  For the pick and what he is, A+

Thank god 2017 was so epic it carried another 1-2 draft classes.

Loomis needs to be banned from making trades. He always gets worked over.

If you nail your first round pick, call it an A+, I think the worst you can look at that draft is a C/C-.  Nailing that first round pick is pretty important.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure he meant for the Browns since they came back in 1999. But still a hyperbolic post lol

1.1- Baker Mayfield QB- Good rookie year, historically bad 2nd year, solid 3rd year, bad 4th year, then traded. Taken over Josh Allen and Lamar doesn't help his cause. He's a fringe NFL starter, so I'd say that's a C- to D+ pick.

1.4- Denzel Ward CB- Multiple Pro Bowler, one of the best in the NFL at an elite position. A to A-

2- Austin Corbett OG- He did absolutely nothing in Cleveland at all, but he's now a capable NFL starter. C to B depending on your opinion of him being good or having to be good for your franchise

2. Nick Chubb RB- Absolute homerun. A+ Pick

3. Chad Thomas - Horrendous pick and I said it at the time, especially when we traded back a few picks and could have drafted Sam Hubbard at the same position from OSU. F

4. Antonio Callaway - Massive off the field issues, could have been good. D-

5. Genard Avery - Given where he was taken, I'd give him a C+.

6. Damian Ratley- D

7. Simeon Thomas - D/F

The Browns came back in '99, so he's speaking purely for the Browns in that timeframe, not overall in the NFL.
