@mountainpd I always respect anyone taking their kicking game seriously.

We should all start a huge thread after the draft rush is over about how we would build our franchises if we were handed GM duties, over say a 4 year stretch, or just as a mantra. All of the finer details. I've debated this several times.

Back to the kicking game. It's always shocked me. Like teams will frequently let top 7 PKs or Ps leave in FA, presumably because they would rather pay like $1,000,000-$1,700,000 less to some guy in the absolute middle of the pack with less consistency, only to go into FA and overpay some meh LB or okay WR by like $3-$4 Million per season. As a tipoff to my strategy, if I ever find a P who can consistently pin teams inside the 20 (accuracy), and also bat top 12 in punting distance, I have no problem resetting the market for the position by giving him another 3-4 year deal where it appears I'm overpaying him by a whole $1M per season. I'm keeping that guy until further notice. Same at PK.

Gives your defense a big advantage having that extra 7-20 yards on a regular basis. My take anyways. I'm surprised at all the P and PK movement every offseason. I realize some of these players are volatile. I wouldn't necessarily do the same for a guy who has a career season in his 4th-5th year in the league. But if a Matt Gay for example becomes available in FA (top 5 in 50+ over a big sample), I'm paying him.

Colts 2024 Draft

1) Jared Verse / DE / Florida State

2) Kamari Lassiter / CB / Georgia

3) Jalen McMillan / WR / Washington

4) Ben Sinnott / TE / Kansas State

5) Jordan Travis / QB / Florida State

6) Cody Schrader / RB / Missouri

7) ??

Man, I like this draft quite a bit. Verse is a legit No. 1 pass rusher, Lassiter is a good CB, McMillan is a contributor, Sinnott is a steal and gives the Colts one of the best TE rotations, Travis is a solid backup, and Schrader should be an ok power back.

Yeah I actually kind of like Schrader quite a bit at first glance. His ranking is so low on consensus I almost had to do a re-watch. His hands put him on another level imo. He's a bit inconsistent between the tackles. But overall I think he's a pretty well-rounded and productive SEC back. That's what position coaches are for, especially with 6th round + talents. Improve the reads and contact balance and we might have something here, imo.

The other thing you touched on there, and sorry if I get long-winded, is McMillan's contributions. Chris Ballard is quite the polarizing GM. MANY, and I mean many, Colts fans are constantly trying to throw this guy out the door. Fwiw I'm one of his bigger supporters (doesn't mean I'd do everything the same). And I watched an interview after last season's finish where he emphasized he thought one of the places he came up short was having a backup plan for outside-inside versatility at WR after Ashton Dulin (one of his guys, been around a while) got hurt. For me, enter McMillan. He's no Malik Nabers, but he's also a productive step up from Ashton Dulin IMO. He's one of those guys, at least my breakdown, who doesn't appear to do anything elite on tape (his deep ball-tracking is pretty damn good), but I also can't explain how he gets so open so often, and then makes plays. He's well worth a shot as a 3rd option in the 3rd round IMO. Gives us an option.

Edit: He also had a pretty good RAS, which clearly Ballard is paying attention to. Has the size/speed combo to get attention in mid rounds.

An eagles fan drafting the son of a former eagle great just feels right, even if it's for the lions
