That's the premise, but I wonder if it's actually true?

  • His RAS was mediocre, one of the lowest by a Packers draft pick in years, no?
  • He's not fast, for a receiver or return specialist or a jet-sweep threat or whatever.  His on-the-field speed has looked as JAG as his clock time.  He doesn't look like he's going to outrun any safeties or opponent special-teamers.  Kinda JAG runner?
  • His hands haven't looked notably talented in the punt game.
  • He's a short man, I'm not sure his hands are big or unusually configured to be unusually good?  College scouting reports were average in terms of how good his hands were.
  • In the punt game he hasn't looked either quick, or fast, or shifty.  Again, kinda JAG.
  • Obviously as a pass target he's always going to be a short-radius guy, that's not going to change.
  • He may eventually optimize his skills as a situational short-swing-pass receiver, bubble screen or whatever.
  • But, he doesn't look like he's got any particularly noteworthy explosiveness or play-making ability.  Am I missing something that you're seeing?  Kinda seems like Just a Guy.

The only thing I would say has jumped out at me athletically is his acceleration.  He looks to have a good burst.

Other than that, there is the collegiate production at a big time program.

And that's about it...on paper.

I still like the kid and think he has a chance to be good with us.

Your not the drama queen AR is!

Comparing playing through an injury in Semi-pro Frisbee to NFL football is pretty amazing, tbh.

He has the fifth lowest RAS of Gute's draft picks.

That being said, Cobb was the sixth lowest of all of Thompson's picks and scored out worse than Rodgers.

Of the 17 WRs drafted by Thompson, Cobb had the second lowest RAS (3.65), Adams had the fourth lowest (6.54), Jones (6.62) had the 5th lowest. The five above a 9.0 RAS were Yancey, Trevor Davis, Charles Johnson, Terrence Murphy, and the GOAT Jeff Janis.

Where are the  weak coaches under La Fleur ? I'm judging them largely by the only way I can do it, by how their units play.

OC Hackett - probably a head coach candidate next year, despite not calling the plays
QB coach Getsy - Don't know much about him, really, he's hard to judge given Rodgers is the QB and we don't yet know what we have in Love.

O line coaches Stenavich and Butkus - RB coach Sirmans - WR coach Vrable - TE coach - Outten  - taking into account who they have to work with, they all seem decent, and some like Hackett, Stenavich and Sirmans seem to be high quality.

DC Barry - the best indication on him, is how different the defense has been with only him and Jerry Gray as new faces. Was Pettine a too much of a micro-manager while Barry gave his coaches more freedom to coach, or is Barry's system simply better ? Whatever it is, I say long live Fangio's 'quarters' defense in Green Bay.
CB coach Jerry Gray (very glad the Packers picked him up, he could so easily be a co-ordinator elsewhere), ILB coach Olivadotti, OLB coach Smith, D line coach Montgomery, they all seem to have done well with what they have been given.

Last and (sadly) least, is ST guy Drayton. This is the only position I'd really be looking to change.

So, almost no changes needed......... and that comes from someone who advocates a coaching change or two every year, for several years after hiring a new head coach (especially one who is somewhat under-rated at the time). Now, given his record and even-keel approach, not to mention his success over three years, La Fleur should find it much easier to get prime coaches....................even though the Packers don't seem to need much change.

The biggest need for new coaches in the future (aside from a ST coach) seems likely to be replacing coaches and co-ordinators that go elsewhere with a promotion they are unable to get, in-house.

I'm all for changing him out, but we need to open the purse strings and get a good one.  We had one here, in our building, and we let him leave because our financial offer was so poor.

In Drayton we got what we paid for.

Nicole Menner -   Packers Matt LaFleur says Randall Cobb (groin) got hurt on his TD catch and they’re still “gathering opinions” on the severity of it.

On Aaron Rodgers' fractured toe situation: "I don't know where that's at. I know he's gathering other opinions. so we'll see where that goes."

I don't foresee any coaching changes this off-season, unless someone leaves. I don't think we really need any either. I think Drayton should get another year.

Maybe you're right and he gets another year.
Special teams units are always difficult to train up well, as many of them are rookies and/or back of the roster types that can change each year.

Still, referencing HighCalebR, if a ST coach called Harry Potter becomes available - don't hesitate.
