The deal will reportedly be for four or five years, and represents a huge investment for the future for a team that has generally taken care of its own receivers. They’ve also committed to Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson in recent years, though this might not be a good sign for Cobb’s future. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/29/packers-give-davante-adams-massive-contract-extension/ While Adams had a nice year, I personally think that contract for him is a fireable offense. vike daddy
Veteran Packers reporter Bob McGinn, who left the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last year and started his own online publication, reports that the removal of Ted Thompson from the G.M. position in Green Bay happened at the behest of the team. Specifically, the 45-member Board of Directors instructed CEO Mark Murphy to remove Thompson from the job. McGinn points to “public images” of Thompson and “some recent interaction” with team executives as the impetus for the move, listing various factors that contributed to the conclusion that Thompson’s health prevents him from continuing in the job. McGinn’s article delves into specifics that, indeed, would make Thompson unfit to continue in such a demanding job. It’s unclear what the issue is, but the concern generally relates to his ability to properly focus. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/01/02/report-board-of-directors-instructed-murphy-to-remove-thompson-from-g-m-job/ Ted getting dementia...? TENINCH
Probably wanted to fire him but a few people probably told them that was a bad idea considering what he'd done for the franchise. He sure has aged though!
vike daddy
Rob Demovsky @RobDemovsky Packers should have stability at head coach since they had already extended Mike McCarthy's contract during the season, per a source. He's now under contract through the 2019 season. Jason Wilde @jasonjwilde Important to remember that the #Packers signed Mike Sherman to a two-year contract extension after he gave up the GM job and was solely the coach. That was Aug. 23, 2005. He was fired after the 2005 season by Ted Thompson. So McCarthy's deal is hardly a guarantee. Edited January 2, 2018 by vike daddy
CriminalMind
Yep, transitioning to another position... is just corporate talk ... he was relieved of his control ... and likely will have no important decisions for the time being ... and will leave the organization officially at the low point in the offseason. I see that McGinn's story is even more pointed: Ten days ago, NBC cameras centered on Thompson at his press-box seat when play was stopped during the Green Bay-Minnesota game at Lambeau Field. For almost 12 seconds Thompson was sitting there with his mouth open... Thompson frequently is seen in the Packers’ offices in similar pose, which alarmed one person... An executive in personnel for an NFC team said he encountered Thompson on the scouting trail this fall. “He looks like he’s walking in a daze,” the personnel man said last week. “It looks like there’s something that’s slowing him down mentally.”
