The implication being that the *short week* is the deterrent, not the in-season change

edit: he is referring to Shurmur

We need to hand the reins over to Shula now! Shurmer has gone so far off the rails the offense isn't even recognizable.

What was his fallout in Philly though?

ownership and gm wanted to get involved with his staffing selections pederson said no he's a superbowl winning coach kinda never had management support Howie and laurie.  I'd be so worried about his staff all the guys he brought to Philly seemed to be let go.

Anyone watch this KC team closely enough to know what’s been wrong with Mahomes?

Curious to know if he’s just pressing, if defenses have adjusted and are playing them better, if it’s personnel, scheme, etc.

Mahomes has never needed to read coverages like he’s had to this season. His progressions have always been,

1. First read.

2. Air it out / take off running.

Defences seem to be taking away his over the top options, while containing him in the pocket. And the OL has just been really really bad.

This. Mahomes is a very good QB, so please don’t mistake my critique as a claim otherwise, but he has been the beneficiary of being surrounded by the most athletic skill players in the league and a great HC who has designed players open rather than relying on Mahomes to find the open man. This season the KC offense isn’t head and shoulders above the field in athleticism and as mentioned their OL isn’t protecting OR gettting push in the run game allowing defenses to play more mixed concepts. This means Mahomes is having to read the entire field, and in a hurry.

The problems for KC IMO are 3-fold:

1.   First and foremost D’s have figured out that the KC O hinges on chunk plays.   Tyreek Hill gets contained the O doesn’t have the run game patience or even short game patience to put together 10-12 play drives consistently.    It’s why Mahomes is seeing 2-deep coverage at all times.

2.  The KC OL is better (the rookie and C especially are helping on the inside), but nowhere near their 2019 and earlier levels of play.   Forcing pressure with 4 guys leaves the ability to cover Hill deep and bracket Kelce.   It’s why KC is looking to find a legit 3rd weapon.

3.   Finally and most importantly their D has collapsed.   They’re no longer a shutdown pass D and they’ve always been vulnerable to the run.    But when they had leads they could pin their ears back and get to the QB.  Now that their secondary has dropped their level of play and they’re behind and can’t play against catch up it’s all fallen apart.   It’s created the double whammy that the opposition not only gets ahead - but they can keep the ball away and win TOP - this makes 1 & 2 even worse.

All of which to say - KC’s problems on O will get better with a 3rd option.   Maybe they don’t find it right away, but that’s easiest to address.   Ultimately if you take Hill away right now, the D forces KC’s O to operate outside of their comfort zone.

But their D problems aren’t going away.  And it’s going to be a real problem.   LAC should be the favorite to win the AFCW (esp if they get a run stuffing DT before the trade deadline it’s their key missing piece on D).

The crunch for Pat will really pick up next year. His cap number of $7.4 million this year jumps to $35.7 next year, and around $46 the following year.

Patching holes via FA will be pretty tough. KC is an incredibly top heavy team salary wise.
