Who knows, bu Cavs have a valuable asset and some decent expiring contracts for a team to potential look for a rebuilding mid way through the year
tom cody
The Cavs won the deal. Got Thomas (Who I think is better than Irving), a more than likely early 1st next year and Jae Crowder. Both teams will still be formidable in the East next year but got to think the Cavs won the deal.

Analytically, I would be ok with or without the trade. My heart is with Isaiah, he threw himself into Boston.

Say for instance it's a low lottery pick then what? So Cavs are banking on that pick being a high lottery pick essentially? Define low lottery. There is no way that pick is worse than 7th unless injuries just ravage the late lottery teams. Either way Cleveland is much better set up for post-LeBron than they were before the trade. They'll have a high pick, a young piece, a trade asset in Crowder, huge tax relief (because if LeBron leaves, then they aren't bringing back Thomas either), and a set path. They had their cake and ate it too by keeping themselves as co-favorites in the East and giving themselves options for next summer if/when LeBron leaves. Compare the haul they got for Irving to what Sacramento got for Cousins and what Chicago got for Butler. Cleveland got BY FAR the best return.

Not excited to get that garbage but Crowder and the pick make up for it. Hell IT could be the #4 on this team Thomas doesn't have a beta personality. He's not just gonna be LeBron's *****. Who in the world would be the #3 for Cleveland in this scenario where IT is the #4?

Knicks, Suns, Bulls Magic are all definitively worse imo. Then you have Kings, Lakers, Hawks, Pacers, Pistons who can be worse. So the Nets being lower lottery pick than 7th is fathomable Cleveland being better set for the future isn't saying much though given how most considered it to be bleak given the state of their roster. So yeah they went from potentially disastrous to quite bad it seems. Edited August 23, 2017 by Kip Smithers

He's a very good player, but he never has been and never will be an elite player. He plays negative defense, he's not THAT efficient (IT was more efficient last year with a higher usage rate) and, yes, he has peaked, what 'next level' is he going to hit? Most players who's game revolves around their athleticism first and foremost peak in their mid-20's. You don't think Kyrie can get any better playing under Brad Stevens? There a few natural scorers with the length that Jayson has at the 3 positions...he can truly score at will...did you see him in the summer league...the talent is there...point is Jayson Tatuma and the nets pick was a necessary return that the cavs didnt pull off He has length, but only above average athleticism, he isn't a good defender, and his shot from range isn't good. He has incredibly polished footwork, and can fill it up from the mid-range. He's not transcendent, unless you think Rudy Gay is transcendent. lancerman
I hate Thomas, he's a guy who can just kill momentum sometimes. His positives aren't worth that. I trust Kyrie more. For that alone I'm fine with the trade. Celtics now have Hayward, Tatum, Irving and Lebron's about to leave the conference in a year.
MookieMonstah
I can't believe people are actually saying IT is better than Kyrie... They have similar flaws but IT is a few steps behind Kyrie as a player.
Pastor Dillon
If IT was about 6 inches taller they would be comparable, but his height is a huge liability. Size is worth a lot in this league. Plus I am sure he has little man syndrome, because honestly have you ever meet a "little" basketball player who didnt? Even in pick up ball when most people playing are 5ft9-6ft1 the guy who is 5ft 4 might be the best one but hes also got an annoying chip on his shoulder.
