In light of this situation, and in the best interests of the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and our local communities, Penn State has decided to move to remote learning for all classes beginning Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 3, with a plan to resume in-person classes on Monday, April 6, at the earliest. For faculty and staff, the University will remain open, however there are additional details below regarding specifics.

From that article:

  • Countries that are prepared will see a fatality rate of ~0.5% (South Korea) to 0.9% (rest of China).
  • Countries that are overwhelmed will have a fatality rate between ~3%-5%

Put in another way: Countries that act fast can reduce the number of deaths by ten. And that’s just counting the fatality rate. Acting fast also drastically reduces the cases, making this even more of a no-brainer.

Meanwhile, POTUS is sticking to his message that this is not any different than the flu, and there is no need to declare an emergency to unlock funding and engage FEMA.

"We’re doing a great job with it,” Trump told reporters Tuesday. “And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”

If this spreads beyond 100,000+ people in the US, our deathrate is going to be worse than Hubei or Italy (over 4%) simply due to the sheer number of cases and lack of medical supplies.

I’m assuming this is a joke, but that’s literally the worst option.

It was a serious joke
