What Are You Expecting from Your Sophomores

LB Devin Bush had a very solid rookie year, but I didnt love him as much as some Steeler fans.   Great playmaker with phenomenal sideline to sideline ability, but needs to be more stout against runs up the middle, especially wit Hargraves gone.

WR Dionte Johnson looked like our future star WR towards the end of last year with the worst QB play in the league.   Want to see what he can do with a real QB.

CB Justin Layne has nice length and athleticism, but I dont expect much from him.

RB Benny Snell has the tools to be a solid tandem back or a great backup.

Beyond that, the only player I have any real excitement for is Isaiah Buggs, and its limited optimism.

Chiefs  -

2a) Mecole Hardman - Was a great 4th option down the stretch, and that will continue this year. FAST

2b) Juan Thornhill - Already recovered from ACL tear, was looking really good before that.

3) Khalen Saunders NT - Solid rotational player with great strength.

6) Rashad Fenton CB - In the starting rotation at corner, solid with good technique

6b) Darwin Thompson RB - Barely makes it in as a 3rd back

7) Nick Allegreti C/G - Depth guy

Patriots:

Winovich and punter/kickoff specialist Bailey, are the only early returns on investment that have a shot of being some type of player of the week or eventual Pro Bowler - although the latter is doubtful. The rest battled injury or didn't play much at all. Of that group, Williams, Cowart, and Harry showed glimpses of starter potential maybe. Harris seems average for a backup back; maybe okay. Jarrett Stidham sucks. Froholdt and Cajuste seem destined to be depth pieces at best in their careers, and Webster signed elsewhere last year; idk what he is up to now.

UDFA Jakobi Meyers was a decent depth receiver as a rookie in a depleted corp. Unlikely to make the roster it seems in 2020. Practice squad potential for year 2 cornerback D'Angelo Ross and linebacker Terez Hall.

1. Hollywood Brown- has a great offseason and has come to camp making plays. Looks like a surefire 1000 yds received this season.

3. Jaylon Ferguson- hasn’t made any notable noise in training camp. Should be within the rotation like last season.

3. Miles Boykin- has made some noise in training camp, has a strong shot to be the 3rd most targeted option behind Hollywood and Mandrews. Wouldn’t expect much though because of the nature of our offense but I could imagine foresee him coming in with roughly 550-650 receiving yards.

4. Justice Hill- 4th string RB is essentially a 3rd string RB in most offenses. Don’t expect to see him much this season unless injuries hit or a trade happens. He’s a quality 3rd down back. Just has an incredible stable of backs in front of him.

4. Ben Powers- Competing for a starting spot at RG but it appears he’s behind in the battle to Fluker. Has looked pretty good when he saw time as a rookie however.

4. Iman Marshall- Injured and our for the season again. Didn’t really make too much noise in camp before injury either. Tough luck, likely will be competing for a roster spot next season.

5. Daylon Mack- Showed up to camp out of shape and got cut for it. No time this offseason to be worried about 5th round picks being babied into quality shape. He should’ve opted out if he knew he was out of shape, would’ve been his smartest play.

6. Trace McSorely- Nothing special. Has more experience, but has shown to be inferior to UDFA QB Tyler Huntley.  McSorely is at least a practice squad guy, but could find himself on the roster over Huntley only due to experience within the offense.

UDFA- Patrick Mekari- was competing for the starting center spot, but it looks like he might be on the outside looking in at this point.

Montr Sweat will be a solid 8-10 sack guy never a pro bowler but in the verge

Haskin - Looked **** a bust eith coaches who didnt want him but came on sttong towards the end of the year. Guy was more worried about his brand and business. However this year he has been working out alot and lost weight.

Terry Mcluren - Steal of the draft guy will be a super star best wr in class a 3rd rounder

Bryce Love had high hopes for him but cant even beat out old man Adrian Peterson

West Martin seems like a scrub

Cole Holcombe seems very solid will never be a pro bowler but maybe can be a quality starter

Kelvin Jarmon was our #2 wr seems slow possesion wr and got injured this year would like to see him at TE he weighs like 230 and is 6"2

Jimmy Moreland had ups and downs in the slot but can be a steal and maybe improve

For the Titans

Jeffery Simmons(DT/Round 1)-A year and a half removed from his ACL tear. Lost some weight and reportedly has look more explosive and powerful in TC. With Jurrell Casey gone, expectations is pretty high for him.

AJ Brown(WR/Round 2)-Another guy with huge expectations for the year. After a impressive rookie year, already consider by some as a borderline top 10 WR. With the chemistry he has with Tannehill, could be primed for a monster year.

Nate Davis(G/Round 3)-Up and down rookie year but was on the upswing at season’s end. Is entrenched as the starter at right guard.

Amani Hooker(DB/Round 5)-Was a rotational piece in our secondary last year and did pretty well in that role. Could have a bigger role this year with the loss of Logan Ryan.

DeAndre Walker(OLB/Round 6)-Was injured last year. With our pass rush still being a bit of a question mark, should have plenty of opportunities as a rotational pass rusher.

David Long(MLB/Round 6)-Started out as a special teamer but was playing key minutes defensively for us by season’s end. Really flashed during the Ravens game when Jayon Brown was hurt. With Wesley Woodyard gone, expected to have a bigger role as the 3rd backer behind Brown and Rashaan Evans.

So for 2020 we have 3 starters(2 which we expect to be “difference makers”) and 3 guys who’ll be in critical roles needed for the team. A lot of expectations for these 2nd year guys. They honestly could be the difference from us going from good to great or the team suffering a setback from our 2019 season if they don’t take that next step. No pressure tho....

1. OT || Andre Dillard - Out for the Season, I'm more patient with young players than most Eagles fans, he absolutely deserves a shot to see what he can do next year.
2. RB || Miles Sanders - Will be the first feature back the Eagles have had in a long time. He showed consistent improvement over the course of last season and has been working really hard this off season. He could end the season as a top 10 overall Runningback.
2. WR || JJ Arcega Whiteside - He seems smarter and in better shape than he did last year, and he's been having a good training camp. Do I think he'll ever be a really good WR? No, but he could be an ok X receiver that contributes a fair amount.
4. DE || Shareef Miller - He'll be fighting for a roster spot with Joe Ostman, would probably have been the odd man out for sure if Daeshon Hall wasn't out for this season.

One additional note on JJAW, JJ Arcega Whiteside, is that his 2nd season may be backwards from many other players.

With Jeffrey out or iffy and Raegor out at least a few games he has a chance to be that 3rd or 4th option in the passing game.

Once they both get back on the field he may be 5th or 6th so he needs to show something early.

I know this is Philly so we may get 4 other injuries anyway that give him more of a chance..

Yeah, we're gonna be leaning pretty heavily on this class this season.  I expect big things from Simmons and Brown, but I don't know yet if Simmons can carry the interior line.

I actually don't expect much from Hooker, at least as a CB.  If they liked what they saw late in the season as much as they did early, Fulton likely wouldn't have been picked.

Walker is going to be the difference maker IMO.  If he can be a 4-5 sack guy, it will be huge for our edge rotation.  Derrick Roberson too.  With the Beasley situation, we're gonna need multiple guys who can play at that level on the edge.

Noah Fant TE - I expect him to be a top TE but a tier below Kelce/Kittle level

Dalton Risner OG - Already a very good player, will be a top tier guard

Drew Lock QB - He will be a top 10-ish QB with the potential for a huge breakout.

Dre'Mont Jones DE - Should be a solid, consistent player

Justin Hollins LB - Didn't really fit in anywhere. Don't know.

Juwann Winfree WR - Will likely be a ST guy I guess

1. Hollywood Brown - Pro-Bowl year.

3. Jaylon Ferguson - Rotational pass rusher.

3. Miles Boykin - solid starting WR who is going to flash some plays because of his freakish size/speed combo.

4. Justice Hill - Don't expect much but this dude is so fast and shifty he makes people look silly in the open field. It's a shame we don't use him more.

4. Ben Powers - depth IOL.

4. Iman Marshall - Get healthy for next year.

5. Daylon Mack - he gone

6. Trace McSorely - Hopefully he'll be cut.

UDFA- Patrick Mekari - depth IOL

I'll list the players in order of expected impact and value this season.

Dwayne Haskins (1st round) - Was much better last season than traditional stats indicated.  Was challenged by Rivera in the beginning of the offseason to earn the starting job.  Haskins accepted the challenge, completely transforming his body and earning high praise for his work ethic and understanding of the playbook, especially given the hand he was dealt learning a new offense in his second year during Covid.  Was just officially named the starter today.  I expect him to have an uneven season full of average to below-average QB play (mostly due to the surrounding talent and his inexperience), but with flashes of brilliance.  I think it'll be clear at the end of the season that he our franchise QB.

Terry McLaurin (3rd round) - Best player on the team (pending how Young emerges).  Will be considered a consensus top 10 WR by the end of the year if he stays healthy.  Our only proven weapon on offense (unless you count AD as a "weapon").

Montez Sweat (1st round) - He started slow last year, but came on late, with 5.5 of his 7 sacks last season coming after week 8.  Has supposedly had the best camp for the WFT, apparently looking like a dominating force by most reports.  Albeit, some of it is against an unproven left side of the OL.  In terms of expectations, I'm expecting him to be better than he was last season, but not a pro-bowl caliber player - yet.  He should see a ton of 1-on-1 blocking, but I'm still a little leery of expecting too much out of him given his relative inexperience playing the DE position (only 2 years in college).  He still has a lot to learn when it comes to pairing his freakish athleticism with his technique.

Steven Sims (UDFA) - A pleasant surprise last year.  Was one of the best kick returners in the league to begin the year, and was statistically one of the best slot WRs in the league in the last several games at the end of the year.  He hasn't received a ton of praise in camp, so I'm not expecting him to pick up where he left off last year, but I also wouldn't be shocked if he did.  He'll be used in the backfield a lot on misdirections and end-arounds in this Scott Turner offense, and will be a good security blanket for Dwayne in the middle of the field.

Jimmy Moreland (7th round) - The People's Corner.  He had a lot of hype in TC last year, but didn't do much during the season.  CB is a tough position to learn, so I wasn't really surprised he struggled.  He's been getting hype in this training camp as well, but I'm expecting him to actually live up to some of it this year.  He's been starting at Nickel for us and filling in for Fuller on the outside in base while Fuller deals with his nagging injury.  Landon Collins called him out as the player to expect to break out on defense this year.

Cole Holcomb (5th round) - I believe he led all rookies in tackles last year, but I could be wrong.  Very solid run defender, but a liability in coverage.  I expect him to start at times this year, but I'm not sure how much he'll actually play given we have a group of LBs who are all at about the same skill level.  None are really standout starters.

Wes Martin (4th round) - Hoping he's our solution at LG, but he's had a rough camp.  Got called out after practice by Rivera in front of the media a couple of weeks ago and they've been cycling in new players at LG since then.  This will likely be our weakest position on offense, regardless.

Bryce Love (4th round) - Has been working with both the 1st and 2nd teams, with conflicting reports on if he looks "back to normal".  Some say he looks like he still has a hitch in his step and doesn't look as fast or explosive as he once did.  Others say he looks like Stanford Bryce Love.  I don't expect him to do much this year if AP, Gibson and McKissic all stay healthy.  There's even talk that he could be released.  We'll see.

Ross Pierschbacher (5th round) - JAG.  Wouldn't be surprised if he's released and replaced by our rookie center.

Jordan Brailford (7th round) - Also JAG.  Not sure if he makes the team.  If he does, it'll be due to Special Teams.

Kelvin Harmon (6th round) - Tore his ACL a couple months ago.  Huge blow for Haskins, as they had a great connection and were training regularly during the offseason.  He was our clear starting outside WR opposite Terry, and his presence will definitely be missed.

Rock-Ya-Sin- He started off rocky but got better later in the season. I think he’ll pick up where he left off and continue to improve.

Ben Banogu- I think he’ll be a solid rotational player in the already deep Front- 7.

Parris Campbell- He had a rough and unlucky rookie season. I think he’ll bounce back and contribute in the wr crops. Also helps he’d probably be the # 3 behind Hilton and Pittman.

Bobby Okereke- Definitely have high hopes for him he’s everything I like in a LBer fast, rangy, athletic, long arms and high motor. If I have to choose I’ll say he‘ll have a breakout year.

Khari Willis- I also feel like he’ll have a good season. Started early last year due to injuries and was ahead of schedule. He’s a sound tackler and has good instincts which are important playing SS.

EJ Speed- Another potential rotational LBer he was great at special teams last season. I think he barely makes the roster because how deep the front 7 is.
