Rank and file players have a average shelf life of 3 years in the NFL, so they're not going to risk missing a years worth of pay for a potential strike. The very good/elite players obviously have the means to go for a strike, but there's not so many of them. The owners know the rank and file are eventually going to cave doing negotiations, (and they do) so the NFLPA doesn't have the leverage to get things like guaranteed contracts or lifetime health benefits.

I don’t completely get that with the younger guys, or guys younger than 30. In theory it’s one less year of damage on their bodies.

The sad part is that he won't get to play out this season where he would have thrived.

This injury cost him over $100,000,000.

They still need money for necessities and other things. Believe or not, there's a lot of players that are living pay check to pay check in the NFL.
