Well the question is if Wirfs can handle himself as a LT. Pretty sure that’s what his point was or from what I remembered. Dude might be a stud RT but might never be a good LT. Conklin is a stud RT but I don’t see him being able to hold it down at LT

I'm pretty sure MC said Wirfs could only be a guard in the pros.

Man, I don't know.

Detroit fans seem pretty happy that he was cut...

You have to take into account that Detroit was a dumpster fire, they pretty much revolted on Patricia as well. A new start in a stable organization would help him tremendously

If we are keeping Richardson, I don't want to bring in another DT via FA. Draft one in rounds 3-5.

Andrew Billings is worthy of a starting spot. He's really good against the run and not atrocious as a rusher, despite that massive size.  We need a sub package interior rusher (Jalen Twyman?) and maybe a future starter on the interior (Tommy Togiai? Bobby Brown?)

I'd try to get this haul in Free Agency:

Jayon Brown OLB
Malik Hooker FS (ss when Harrison sub packages down to LB'er)
Carlos Dunlap DE
Desmond King CB

I think all of those guys could be had for relatively cheap contracts and would be long-term pieces. Injury history and inconsistency will make those young guys cheap (Brown/Hooker/King), and Dunlap's age shouldn't mean netting him to a crazy deal.

Draft an outside CB, a LB, and DE/DT's later in the draft, along with a WR and some depth.
26-Newsome CB
2-Moses MLB
3-Roche DE
3-Twyman DT
4-Terry WR
4-Togiai DT
5-Wallow WLB
6-Rumph SLB
7-Borregales K
UDFA-Justin Hall WR

That's a stacked lineup. All we would really need is our injury guys to stay healthy and a long-term answer at LE, since Roche is more of a pass rush specialist and Dunlap is older.

I'm not comfortable assuming he is a starter and quite honestly, I wouldn't hand him anything, I just think we can do better, plus there is no guarantee he even makes it out of camp IMO. I would have as much competition as possible whether it is bringing in a mid tier FA with upside that wouldn't cost much like a (PJ Hall/Roy Robertson-Harris) along with a rookie DT (Onwuzurike, Twyman, Alim McNiell).

Yeah I feel the same.

It hurts a lot of teams this year and they will have to make cuts they don't want and that sucks for them but for us, who have like the 10th highest payroll, we won't be able to keep our carryover rolling over making it easier to sign Baker/Ward/Chubb etc... in the future.

If the carryover means that much to us we can cut (or trade) salary this year but that would have to include pieces like Richardson, OBJ, Landry, Njoku or offensive linemen which seems like a bad idea.

We're technically 4 million over the cap right now if we don't include the carryover which puts us at 24 under so that shows just how much it means to have that in our back pocket. Now the decision will be do we want to stay quiet in free agency, make a tough cut/trade or just lose our carryover. Not everyone is going to be happy with whatever decision they make. Hopefully it works out though.

Might be a year for a couple one season deals to have a real hard go at getting a ring, then relook at everything next season.

hearing thanks to a new tv deal due the cap is going to go about a lot

Got to think in the background we are working on redoing some deals, Jarvis, Richardson and even Bitonio have to all be ones we are considering,

effectively we are 4 million over the cap without carry over which we won’t have next year. This has to be factored into any decisions made. Unless restructures are done or cuts made I don’t see splash FA pick ups except as said above maybe on a one year deal
