The team has too much talent in general (when healthy) with alot of pieces that fit with Payton's philosophy, and these are only further heightened by Payton's ability to get the most of his players. Remember, we used to have Taysom come in and throw deep for Brees, after that we had Winston do it. We've seen the retirement-era Brees. He is no longer worth a roster spot.
