Someone on twitter also pointed out that they can't use the tag as leverage for Roquan after the season because that's reserved for Lamar. So it's either he gets what he wants, or he's going to leave and the Ravens would've paid a 2nd and 5th for basically a rental.

Yea, so mostly likely they feel good about signing one or both of them before the tag deadline. Or they gave up a a 2nd and 5th for a one year of a good to great inside linebacker and a 3rd round compensatory pick.

Lamar getting traded to the niners so the Ravens can franchise Roquan.

I'm here for it.

How does anyone like this for the bears.  They have by far the most cap space in the league next year.  You dont build a team by not paying your guys and spending 130 mill on overpriced free agents that werent critical enough to be kept by their team.

Well for one Roquan didn't want to be a part of the rebuild in Chicago. He already demanded a trade in the offseason unless the team was willing to cave in and make him the highest paid LB in the league.

He's a good player but I dont know if that would have been a smart business move.

It appeared the two sides were headed towards a divorce when Ro decided to end his holdout and play out the season on the tag

You can argue about the compensation not being great but Roquan wont come cheaply on his next contract and a 2nd and 5th is better compensation then just letting him walk for nothing

0% shot Roman gets fired midseason lol. You can’t just change the entire scheme of an offense during the season. All a coordinator change does during the season is get a different person calling plays within that scheme. Look at the position coaches...who would take over and call plays within this scheme more effectively than Roman is doing right now?

midseason is obviously a pipe-dream. I would put a vote of confidence in either James Urban (QB coach) or one of the WR's coaches to perhaps call plays. Not sure how seniority falls in our coaching staff offensively though.

I do believe that no matter what happens, we cannot pay Lamar $500M and run a Greg Roman offense.

A late 2nd and a late 5th?

For a 2nd and 5th? I know they have to pay him, but the Bears have picks and cap space already?

He already made himself look childish and unreliable to the new GM. Wants to be the top paid LB and represented himself but refused to negotiate, then called out Poles for "trying to take advantage of him." Poles put him on IR to tey and work something out wiulthout risling injury. Then has his buddy illegally tampered to other teams on his behalf to see what his trade value was. Once Poles said screw it and pulled him off IR to force him to play we all kinda knew his time in Chicago was coming to a close.

He has had issues with every negotiation/commitment since high school when it comes to football. Had issues committing to a program, held out on rookie deal, and made himself look foolish in these last negotiations. I think Poles knew there was not going to be an agreement and took a better deal than we could get in a comp pick.

On the field he is great, and he's not a legal issue fornDV or alcoholism or anything, but there was almost no way Poles was going to be able to rely on him as a centerpiece after all that. Hope he does great for BAL though.

Good organizations value LBs. and then there’s the browns….

The Cardinals' last two first-round picks were LBs. They also have been spenders at the position, acquiring a number of guys over the years as priority free agents. They also started the season with like 6 or 7 ILBs on the roster and more on the practice squad, notably guys like Chandler Wooten and Jesse Luketa.

The Cardinals are historically the least-successful franchise in the NFL. And they're bad this year

This part all makes sense. But man I hope poles can draft, or this “dump everyone and start fresh” won’t work.

Isn't Shanahan the guy who did significantly better with Kirk Cousins and Jimmy G than RGIII and passed on Colin Kaepernick because he doesn't like dual-threat QBs?

You think the guy who just traded three first round picks for Trey Lance doesn't like Dual threat quarterbacks?

Also, the kirk cousins thing is so weird. Like, why do people think that Kirk was some gem that Kyle unearthed? He did most of his best work with Gruden and McVay.

Kirk with Shanny completed 56% and had more INTs (10) than TDs (8) with a 6.5 yards per attempt. He definitely was not better than RG3 under shanny.

The shanahans also very much wanted Russ Wilson over Kirk when they drafted him. Kyle was in love with Josh Allen, and he drafted Trey Lance. Being a dual threat isn't really the issue. But you have to be able to throw from the pocket. That's probably where he wasn't enamored with Kaep and why he wasn't a fit specifically for his offense.

Quote

Shanahan continued, this time talking about lower levels of football and bringing it full circle:

"A lot of much better athletes are also learning how to play the quarterback position. So, man, you want to find Drew Brees who can move like Lamar Jackson"
