I wasn't following CFB and the draft that year as close as others, but I still don't understand how pre-draft Wilson suddenly became a lock for #2 in that class and it wasn't really called out as super odd.

He was a solid prospect.  I guess it is debatable if he was "#2 overall pick good", but he's a quarterback so that doesn't really matter.  I'm just going off memory here so maybe I'm wrong, but most people had him above Lance.  Almost everyone had him above Jones.  Some people had him above Fields.  So he was usually ranked in the top-3, which is really good considering it was seen as a strong QB class.

So I don't think it was super odd.  Clearly he's flopped in the NFL, but it wasn't unreasonable to watch him at BYU and come away thinking he had the skill-set to be a very good QB.  I was a big fan of his and I didn't expect him to be this bad.  But I don't blame the Jets.  They needed a QB and they swung on a talented prospect and missed.  It happens.  They just need to be smart enough to move on.

It's kind of astounding how every game since this thread was posted has only gotten worse.

It’s the curse of the Jets. Everything is amplified there and blowing #2 on a dude that is Josh Rosen is going to incite those fans. That GM seat is hot.

When the Jets were 6-3

FF: The Jets are on the rise

Me: They won a few flukey games and don't have a QB, this isn't sustainable.

FF: Troll!

Since the bye the Jets have won just one game: Bears without Justin Fields.

The moment I heard he was a snobby arrogant know it all rich kid with entitlement issues I wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. I was glad the Jets drafted him.

Basically Jimmy Clausen with a bigger arm and wheels.

I guess. But most of what put him there was absolute projection. People felt he had a strong arm and solid mobility.

I remembered watching Wilson play against Coast Carolina and knowing he was overrated. He looked like a worse version of Oklahoma Baker Mayfield, which isn’t a slight to Baker the prospect, but in a class that had Fields and Lance behind Lawrence; Wilson shouldn’t have been picked higher than the late 1st IMO.

Fields would’ve been the far better pick and the Jets overthought it. The 49ers seeking to develop Lance at least made more sense considering he actually had similar athleticism to Fields and superior passing mechanics, but was less seasoned. If the Jets were going to throw a dart, that’s the direction they should’ve went at least.

Though if we’re being honest they should’ve just tanked for Lawrence, they’d be a playoff team by now with all the draft capital they had and all the other good picks.

Wilson in college was bizarre. He made such horrendous decisions with the football, but pulled off miracle after miracle with pinpoint throws and raw arm talent. It didn’t seem sustainable, but he made it work in college…where I wouldn’t have thought it would be sustainable either.

Weird prospect that the Jets gambled with. It was worth the home-run swing I suppose, but clearly they struck out. I also didn’t know he was a tool off the field. And apparently that gunslinger all-balls approach is gone. He looks charisma-less now.

He probably takes the top spot as biggest miss I've had on a draft prospect. Thought really highly of him coming out of BYU. All sorts of arm talent and ability to improvise. He was really accurate his final year at BYU, but in the NFL, his accuracy has been about as bad as it gets. His ball placement even when it's a completion generally leaves something to be desired not allowing his players to make any plays after the catch. He just never seems to be on the same page as any of his players. Even with a fresh start somewhere else, I just don't think he is salvageable at this point. Guessing he will bounce around for a few years and be out of the league.

Jameis Winston syndrome. Boneheaded plays all year but would dig himself out of self inflicted holes with some amazing flashes of ability. Was never going to translate at the NFL level.

Harsh on collegiate Jameis. At least he was a winner and a leader.

Reading other people's takes on Zach Wilson is kinda fun, we're all dancing around the reality with words like "inconsistent" and "boneheaded" and "mental processing speed".

The negative in his scouting reports should have been "sucks at football".
