I’m expecting Mooney gets some kind of extension this year, but if they spend big money on a FA WR I don’t think they will retain Claypool and I doubt Poles is there yet which has me thinking high draft pick is most likely.

I like what Mooney can be, but I really don’t know why we would give him an extension at this point? He’s not a true #1, and we have plenty of cap space going into the future, so it’s not like we need to absorb a big cap hit year early for some reason.

I agree - we don’t have to do it now. But, reasons I can see it happening:

1) He has obvious trust and chemistry with Fields

2) Poles has been effusive with his praise for Mooney since his arrival

3) It isn’t difficult to see with actual pass protection and a less stripped down passing offense that his numbers go back up to his 2021 levels (his production from weeks 4-10 was at his 2021 levels) leaving us with a situation where he potentially prices his way out of town

4) With both he and Claypool currently set to be UFA after 2023 it would arguably be prudent for Poles to ensure that his entire WR room isn’t potentially turning over again after 2023

I’m not suggesting some kind of massive extension here. Mooney will turn 26 in October. It might make sense for both parties, especially with Mooney coming off a seemingly serious injury and potentially one more serious injury away from hitting FA looking at 1-year incentive laden deal with low guarantees, to do a short 1-2 year extension at solid but not top of the market money to get Mooney some security, to reward him for drastically outplaying his draft slot and to still allow him to potentially cash in huge in FA at 27-28 while also buying ourselves some added time to see just how big a piece of the future he might be. Would Mooney be interested in a 1-year extension at like $10-13M that’s mostly if not fully guaranteed? Who knows. But I think something like that would make a lot of sense for both sides.

Weirdly enough I was just about to suggest the Russell Gage contract he got from the Bucs...similar ages with similar production...I would be okay with $10 million per for the next 3 seasons for Mooney & it gives him the chance to be a FA at 28 years old again.

I contemplated referencing the Gage contract in my post (3/30 with $20 guaranteed) as a bit of a measuring stick deal. Great minds, right? Though I’m not willing to say I’d take a deuce in my hands and rub it all over the interior of my Suburban if Fields gets traded. 😂🤷‍♂️😂

This would probably be advisable. However, I don't know what type of customs and traditions they have across The Pond so that course of action may not be as off base as we think. 🤷‍♂️

How about this as a compromise. AZ can take a deuce and ship it to you then you can smear it in the interior of your Audi and I can give you a virtual high five from the comfort and safety of my loft in Richmond, VA? Teamwork makes the dream work.

My initial reaction is no...but if it comes with like a wee flag saying American Made or something I could be swayed 😂

Alright, so I did one on PFF, and I adjusted the Draft order to give us #1 as well as how I'm predicting Week 18 to go

I also wanted to comment on a few things, so Ill list instead of just posting the recap

  • #1 Overall - TRADE back to #5 with the Colts; Picked up a 2nd (36) 3rd (75) and 4th (100) in 2023 as well as a Future 2024 1st
    • I had Positional Value and Draft for Need pushed very high, I think that created a "bidding war" situation as it seemed alot of lucrative deals would have been accepted.
  • #5 Overall - DOUBLE TRADE Yes I wanted to see what this would look like, So I moved back to #7 and picked up another 2nd (38) and had to send a 6th and 7th rounder to make it work
    • I actually passed on Jalen Carter here, partly because I wanted to see something different than I had done many times before, but mostly because I dont think he would still be there, even at 5
  • R1:#7 - TYREE WILSON DL Texas Tech - I really am intrigued by Wilson, he seems like the absolutely perfect DE for this scheme, and even has the size/skillset to move inside in some sets. Would make Gipson/Robinson still useful rushers as well
  • R2:#36 - DEVON WITHERSPOON CB Illinois - It was talked about somewhere, and I agreed then he feels like a great fit with this scheme, and would make this secondary very scary. Joey Porter Jr dropped into the 2nd and I almost traded up a few spots for him, but I thought it wasnt realistic that hed be there.
  • R2:#38 - TRADE yet again, Swapped with the Dolphins (and sent a 6th #160) back 10 spots to #48 and got another 3rd (80) as well as two future picks 2024 5th and 2025 4th
    • I didnt LOVE anyone in this range, so I wanted to pick up more draft capital. Did I need the future 5th? Or even the VERY future 4th? Not really, but I think we can use these type of assets to make moves for Veterans we want.
  • R2:#48 - LUKAS VAN NESS DE Iowa - Another DE? YEP! We need so much talent added to the DL, that I woudnt be shocked at something like this happening (assuming we get extra picks) This doesnt seem like the Standard DE pairing, but I project as him good enough opposite Wilson, along with other rushing specialists that it could work. His Size/Strength/Style combo, just fits so well
    • He (like Tuli) are too low on the list, if I had seen him earlier, I probably would have just taken him at #38
  • R2:#54 - DARNELL WILSON OL Tennessee - when a man is right, Im going to give him is flowers and @Madmike90is spot on with his praise of Wright. Would be a GREAT RT out the gate.
    • PFF doesnt like this pick (gave it an F) just like the Van Ness pick, but I think he could potentially rise as high as end of the 1st come draft day (see its not all about picking up fallers in these sims)
  • R3:#64 - GERVON DEXTER DL Forida - After a few "reaches" I felt OK taking a bit of a faller here, but seemed realistic as well. He has rare traits, but is inconsistent at this point. I see most of it as technique/leverage based, which can be taught more than most other issues. Could be that UT were looking for, but should at the least be a rotational guy for us right away.
    • Yes its alot of DL picks, but I this draft has alot of talent there, and we NEED a ton of talent infused there.
  • R3:#75 - BRANDON JOSEPH DB Notre Dame - Kind of my first dive into Joseph, I had been looking into FS projects and he was available here. I like alot of what he does in coverage, ad his willingness to run support. Needs to refine his tackling when it comes to playing infront of him, but he does seem teachable. Not saying he would be a stud here, but worth the chance to be the guy to take over for EJax whenever we do move on.
    • I was going to take Overshown here, and kind of wish I would have, but Im still unsure about what were looking to do at LB in the immediate future
  • R3:#80 - ZACH CHARBONNET RB UCLA - While combing through the RBs in this draft, I REALLY like ZC as an option in this offense. He is a patient runner, almost too patient at times (some miscalculate this as dancing). He is a one cut and hit the hole type guy when the blocking is there, which is what this blocking scheme is set up for. Hes never running away from the defense, but still has wiggle atthe second level.
  • R4:#96 - ZAY FLOWERS WR Boston College - Not big enough for many, not strong enough for most. But I LOVE everything else about Zay. Guy can line up in any position, but immediately can be a deep threat or the correction to Velus from last year.
    • Feels like some impactful WRs are going to slip in this draft, and we better take advantage
  • R4:#100 - TRADE -Ive doene a bunch already, but this one was offering a Future pick, and I really like those. So dropped to the end of the 4th with Buffalo (124), added a 6th (188) to add more to the end of the roster, and got a 2024 4th rounder.
  • R4:#124 - OLUSEGUN OLUWATIMI OL Michigan - Im going to ride this train into the ground. He isnt the prototype for this scheme (athletically) but  he is good enough and his balance, execution and leadership are so off the charts, he is the Field General I want for this OL.
  • R5:#128 - XAVIER HUTCHENSON WR Iowa St -  Could absolutely go a lot higher, but I think a few guys in the Tillman/Hutchenson group will get passed in the draft process and slip into later rounds. Im not sure Hutchenson has the #1 WR potential that some tout (his hands arent good enough) but his size and route running are things I love. Plus I think he can be a dominant run blocker, and if Claypool isnt going to pop off for us, we will have to replace that type from somewhere.
  • R5:#147 - ZION NELSON OL Miami (FL) - He has alot of tools, and if you know his journey, he packed on like 100 pounds for college ball, and still is very athletic. But the results just aent there. He still needs to be taught how to use those skills, and if you can do that, he could be a dominant guard, or a pretty good Tackle. Definitely a project, but would be a nice backup/project to have.
  • R6:#188 - JULIUS BRENTS DB Kansas St - I had him in a previous mock, I love how long and aggressive he is. Would be a really nice depth CB with some major potential.
    • FUTURE ASSETTS: Colts 2024 1st Rounder; Bills 2024 4th; Dolphins 2024 5th, 2025 4th

I usually start a mock week 1 and update  it as the year goes on. In the one I have now, I have them taking Van Ness, Wright and Oluwatimi 😅 what are the odds?

Something about Wilson scares me. Wasn't this last year his only really good year? Those guys scare me since Trubisky. Witherspoon strikes me as a decent player but someone who's going to be a PITA with penalties being too handsy.

Charbonnet there would be awesome, however I think some team will take him a lot earlier than we expect. Rams? Seahawks? Maybe even Detroit if lose Williams in FA

I'd love Hutchenson that late. Dexter at that stage would be a pretty good value

His junior and senior years were really similar, he just had more tackles this past year.
