We Can Still Crack the Top Ten

If Gute spends a high(ish) 2024 RD1 pick at safety, I might board the fire Gute train.  Need and value should be aligned just fine for Gute to improve the OL.

The FA market at RB should be interesting next off-season.  Even after the Taylor deal, I don't expect the market to be any kinder to RB's.  If Taylor struggles this season, the market could actually get worse.  Several quality RB's should be ready for a change of scenery once this season is over.

Why? They've consistently found good OL in the mid rounds but S has been a pretty big hole for quite some time.

In general Safeties haven't warranted anything above mid-first-round status, and the way things are going, we're looking at an upper-half pick in the first with at least a couple of Blue Chip LT prospects available.

As for finding mid/late round prospects at OL go, again, it should never be your style to go that route on a premium position if you can help it. That's not even Moneyball tactics, that's just you calling your glued macaroni picture from kindergarten the next Mona Lisa.

And so many of those top 10 "can't miss" OT prospects have in fact missed. I understand you are going for an interpretation of "planet theory" but you can get yourself in just as much trouble by pigeonholing yourself like that.

You shouldn't pass on better football players because you stack the deck positionally.

You're applying hindsight where it doesn't function. Very rarely can you see the 'misses' coming in the NFL Draft.

Yes, don't reach for a player out of need.  We used to do that a lot years ago and the team never seemed to get any better.

I ddin't mean trade for a rb lol. I just was saying we have to cut Bak, and getting two solid veteran rb's for about the same money - while being in position to draft tackle looks ok. Bak + change was referring to the cap hit.

Have they since bakh?

Chasing DBs is what brought us into some deficiencies at other spots.

All things equal I'm bringing in the big this year. Day 2 I'll take whatever.. but the OL needs an injection of a blue chipper if we get a shot at one.

Guess I should've continued reading the thread, the points basically been made.

This year is the year we REALLY need to reset our OL foundation, but more and more it’s looking like DeJean is going to be that safety/slot specialist who breaks into the top half of the first round. Jim Leonhard getting him started in this league is just too good a prospect to pass up.

I was hoping he’d have a quiet year, but that punt return for a TD and the hype he’s building…

More than just a handful are starting to see the potential he has to be that next Minkah Fitzpatrick game changer.

Even I was surprised to see he’s listed at 6’1, 207. Same as Fitzpatrick.

He tracks the ball better than anyone I’ve seen and has that QB mind.

For his sake, if we still have Barry I want him on any other team. But if we get him paired up with a fresh young defensive mind…

We’re talking a return to the Woodson days of beautiful pick sixes and exotic DB blitz packages.

I'm on board with DeJean.  100%.

I think it wiser to draft a top end OT/LT.  But, DeJean is a playmaker.

I've always thought of the O-line as the heart of the offense. Although the comparison is not perfect, I think the O-line is like a chain. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Right now we have like three weak links. As much as I would like DeJean, he is a want not a need. We have three big needs on the O-line. Must maintain discipline and draft O-linemen. Ideally, we should move Tom to center where he could maybe develop to an all-pro, rather than an above average T. That means we need a G and two Ts. This is supposed to be a great year for Ts. Let's go #1 and #2 on Ts in the draft, with maybe a G in round 4. Then draft a bunch of Ss and RBs and see where we are.

P.S. You're one of my favorite posters. Keep 'em coming!
